How to Memorise This Book

Awards questions are tested in two ways: (a) structural — which award ranks above which, who instituted it, in what year; and (b) current-affairs — who won it most recently. This book covers both, organised the way most exam syllabi group them: civilian, gallantry, literary/film/cultural, sports, and international.
Memory hook — tiers: Almost every Indian award system comes in three descending tiers (civilian: Bharat Ratna > Padma Vibhushan > Padma Bhushan > Padma Shri; gallantry, wartime: Param Vir > Maha Vir > Vir Chakra; gallantry, peacetime: Ashoka > Kirti > Shaurya Chakra). Learn the pattern once — "top / second / third" — and you can reconstruct any of these tables even if you forget one name.
