- Ramayana vs Mahabharata authorship: Ramayana — Valmiki; Mahabharata — Ved Vyasa (also called Krishna Dwaipayana) — a very commonly confused pairing.
- First Indian Booker Prize winner: Arundhati Roy (1997) for The God of Small Things — note Salman Rushdie (1981) won earlier but as a British/Indian-born author before Roy's specifically India-set win; exam framing usually specifies "first Indian woman" (Roy) versus other framings.
- Tagore's Nobel: 1913, for Gitanjali (English translation of his own Bengali verse) — the first Asian/non-European Nobel laureate in any category.
