How to Use This Guide

Competitive-exam English (SSC, Bank PO/Clerk, Railways, CDS and similar) rarely tests grammar theory directly — it tests whether you can spot the one wrong word in an otherwise correct-looking sentence, choose the best rewritten version of an underlined phrase, restore the right order of a jumbled paragraph, or fill a blank in a passage with the one word that fits both grammar and meaning — usually inside thirty to forty-five seconds per question. This guide is built entirely around those four skills.

Each numbered concept in Sections 1–12 gives you:

• The rule, stated in one or two lines.
• Three example wrong/fix sentence pairs, set in exam-flavoured contexts — banks, government offices, courts, colleges, sports grounds, railway platforms, hospitals, retail counters — so the pattern sticks rather than the sentence.
• For many rules, a short "Why this happens" note explaining the underlying confusion, because remembering why a mistake feels natural is more durable than memorising the fix in isolation.
• A Mini Practice of ten error-spotting sentences with an answer key at the end of every section.

Sections 13–15 are built differently, because the three question types they cover — Sentence Improvement, Para-Jumbles, and Cloze Tests — are not about spotting a single wrong word inside a fixed sentence. Each of those sections gives you a set of patterns/techniques instead of "rules," followed by a full practice set with a worked answer key.

Read one section at a time. Cover the "Fix" line and try to spot the error yourself before checking. Then attempt the Mini Practice without looking back at the rules — that's the only way to know if a rule has actually become instinct rather than a memorised fact.
