Medieval India for SSC/RRB exams is divided into three broad phases:
- Early Medieval Period (c. 700–1200 CE): Regional kingdoms — Rajputs, Gurjara-Pratiharas, Palas, Rashtrakutas, Cholas, and the beginning of Arab/Turkish invasions.
- Sultanate & Provincial Kingdoms Period (1206–1526 CE): Delhi Sultanate (5 dynasties), Vijayanagara Empire, Bahmani Kingdom, Bhakti-Sufi movements.
- Mughal & Late Medieval Period (1526–1757 CE): Mughal Empire, decline of Mughals, rise of regional powers (Marathas, Sikhs, Jats, Rohillas), arrival of Europeans up to the Battle of Plassey (1757), which conventionally marks the start of British colonial dominance.
