Every year, SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD) and Railway (RRB NTPC, Group D, ALP, JE) examinations dedicate a significant share of their General Science section to questions on the laws of physics and the scientists who discovered them. These questions test not rote memorisation alone but a conceptual grasp of how the physical world behaves — from the motion of everyday objects to the structure of the atom. This chapter, part of Volume 3: General Science, presents a comprehensive, textbook-style treatment of the most important laws in mechanics, heat and thermodynamics, waves and sound, light and optics, electricity and magnetism, and modern physics, along with short biographical notes on the scientists credited with each discovery.
Each law is presented with five elements essential for exam preparation: (1) the precise statement of the law as it is conventionally phrased, (2) the scientist(s) credited with the discovery and the approximate year or era, (3) a clear explanation of the underlying physics, (4) the mathematical formula where applicable, and (5) a real-world application or example that illustrates the law in action. A consolidated master reference table appears at the end of the chapter for rapid last-minute revision.
