- Early Medieval (c. 700–1200 CE): Rajput dynasties; Tripartite Struggle for Kanauj (Pratiharas, Palas, Rashtrakutas); South Indian imperial dynasties (Chalukyas, Pallavas, Cholas, Pandyas).
- Medieval (c. 1200–1526 CE): Delhi Sultanate (five dynasties); Vijayanagara and Bahmani kingdoms; Bhakti-Sufi movements.
