10. Time, work and efficiency

If A completes a job in x days, A’s one-day work is 1/x. Combined rates add. Efficiency is inversely proportional to time: if A is twice as efficient as B, A takes half the time for the same work. Use LCM units when times are integers.

Method before formula

For work done in stages, calculate each stage’s rate and work. A worker’s absence changes the rate only during the relevant interval. Never add days; add work rates.
