Ratio and Proportion is rarely tested as an isolated topic in the harder question types — it is the connecting thread across several other chapters, so strengthening this chapter pays off multiple times over:
- Partnership (Section 5 above) is entirely a ratio-division problem, with “investment × time” replacing the plain ratio terms.
- Average problems often give you a ratio of individual values and ask for combined averages, or vice versa — the “x-multiplier” trick converts these instantly into solvable equations.
- Mixture and Alligation problems (e.g., “in what ratio should two mixtures be combined to get a desired concentration”) are direct extensions of ratio and proportion — the alligation rule itself is derived from a simple ratio equation.
- Ages problems, as shown in Section 6, are a pure application of the ratio “x-multiplier” method combined with simple linear equations.
- Time and Work / Time, Speed and Distance frequently use inverse proportion (efficiency vs. time, speed vs. time for fixed distance) — recognising the inverse relationship instantly, as taught in Section 3.3, saves crucial exam seconds.
- Percentage and ratio are two sides of the same coin — Section 7 showed how to move fluently between “20% more” language and “6 : 5” ratio language, a skill tested very frequently in SSC CGL Tier-2 and RRB NTPC mains papers.
Because of this deep interlinking, time spent mastering Ratio and Proportion is never spent on “just one chapter” — it directly raises your speed and accuracy ceiling across at least four to five other chapters in the quantitative aptitude syllabus.
