Pulling soil, climate, and crop together by region is the single highest-yield synthesis exercise for this entire book, since most application-type exam questions ("which crop would you expect to dominate in region X, and why") are really testing whether you can chain these three facts together rather than recall any one of them in isolation.

Two delta tracts are worth remembering by name specifically because they carry the informal title "rice bowl": the Krishna-Godavari delta of Andhra Pradesh (built on 19th-century Arthur Cotton-era canal works) and the Kaveri delta (Thanjavur district) of Tamil Nadu (fed by the Mettur Dam) are both cited as the "rice bowl" of their respective states, a title that tests both the geography (assured deltaic irrigation on alluvial soil) and the specific dam/project behind it.

The Planning Commission's 15 Agro-Climatic Zones
For a finer-grained regional view than the eight broad belts above, the erstwhile Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog) divides India into 15 agro-climatic zones, based on soil type, climate, and cropping pattern together — a classification that occasionally shows up by name in mains-style or state-PSC questions even though prelims-style questions usually stick to the broader regional groupings.

This 15-zone framework is essentially a finer subdivision of the eight-belt regional table above it, so you do not need to memorise it as a wholly separate fact set — recognise it as the "official planning" version of the same soil-climate-crop logic you've already built, and you can usually place any named zone correctly by reasoning from the states it lists.
