  1. Manasbal vs. Wular (Jammu & Kashmir). Both are natural Kashmir Valley lakes, but Manasbal is the "deepest in the valley" superlative, while Wular is the "largest freshwater lake in India" superlative — depth vs. area, the same trap pattern as Bhimtal vs. Nainital.
  2. Jaisamand vs. Sambhar (Rajasthan). Both are large Rajasthan water bodies, but Jaisamand is an artificial 17th-century reservoir (freshwater), while Sambhar is a natural tectonic saline lake — artificial-freshwater vs. natural-saline, not to be conflated just because both sit in the same desert state.
  3. Lake Poopó vs. Aral Sea vs. Lake Chad vs. Lake Urmia. All four are "shrinking/vanished saline lake" case studies, but each has a distinct primary cause: Aral (one deliberate Soviet irrigation-diversion project), Chad (multi-causal rainfall-and-irrigation decline across four countries), Poopó (mining, drought, and evaporation in Bolivia), Urmia (upstream damming and agricultural withdrawal in Iran) — a question naming any one of the four expects its specific cause, not a generic "climate change" answer.
  4. Lake Kivu vs. Lake Nyos/Monoun. All three are "exploding lakes" at risk of a limnic eruption, but Kivu (Rwanda/DR Congo) is by far the largest and the one undergoing an active, controlled commercial degassing programme, while Nyos and Monoun (both in Cameroon) are smaller and are remembered chiefly for the 1986 Lake Nyos disaster, in which a sudden natural CO₂ release killed roughly 1,700 people — Kivu is the "still being managed" answer, Nyos is the "historical disaster" answer.
  5. Lake Volta vs. Lake Nasser. Both are enormous African reservoirs, but Volta (Ghana, Akosombo Dam, Volta river) is the world's largest reservoir by surface area, while Nasser (Egypt/Sudan, Aswan High Dam, Nile) is one of the largest by volume and is specifically linked to the Abu Simbel relocation — area-record vs. volume-and-heritage-story, not the same superlative.
  6. Hussain Sagar vs. Bhopal's Upper Lake. Both are centuries-old artificial lakes now central to a major city's civic life, but Hussain Sagar (16th century, Hyderabad, Musi tributary) is famous for its Buddha statue and Ganesh-immersion tradition, while the Upper Lake (11th century, Bhopal, Kolans river) is older still and is the drinking-water-and-Ramsar answer — oldest-artificial-lake questions point to Bhopal, not Hyderabad.
  7. Punnamada vs. Vembanad (Kerala). Punnamada is not a separate lake but a specific arm of the larger Vembanad backwater system — the "Nehru Trophy boat race venue" answer is Punnamada specifically, while the "longest lake in India" and "Kuttanad rice region" answers belong to Vembanad as the whole system's name.
  8. Rihand (Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar) vs. Indira Sagar. Both are contenders for "India's largest reservoir," but Rihand holds the water-spread-area record while Indira Sagar holds the live-storage-capacity (volume) record — precisely the same area-vs-volume distinction tested at the Great Lakes and among Baikal/Superior, now recurring a third time within this book at the Indian reservoir level.
