GLASGOW, July 29 — India's medal tally at the 23rd Commonwealth Games climbed further on Wednesday with two silver medal finishes, as the contingent continues a strong showing at Glasgow with the Games set to close on August 2.

The 125-member Indian contingent, led into the opening ceremony by flag bearer Mirabai Chanu, has drawn on strength across weightlifting, shooting and athletics through the tournament. Wednesday's medal added to a haul that has already included gold-medal performances earlier in the week, among them Esha Singh's win in the women's 25m pistol event, with Manu Bhaker also on the podium in the same discipline.

Attention on Wednesday turned to the athletics track and field events, with weightlifter Sanjana competing in the women's 77kg final and long jumpers Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Satyanathan featuring in the men's final, as India looks to add to its medal count in the closing days of the Games.

With the competition entering its final stretch, Indian contingent officials say the focus now shifts to athletics and boxing, traditionally strong medal areas for the country at the Commonwealth Games.
