Agriculture in AP varies sharply by water regime. Delta fields linked to the Godavari and Krishna can support water-intensive cultivation, while rainfed tracts in Rayalaseema and the northern uplands need different crop and risk choices. Canal command areas, tank-fed land and borewell-dependent farms should not be treated as one category. A second crop depends on the timing and reliability of water, not merely on annual rainfall totals. Soil, temperature, credit and market access also shape crop choice.
Livestock and fisheries matter within the primary sector. Milk, eggs and poultry connect farms to feed, veterinary services, cold chains and urban consumers. Marine fishing has a different seasonal and regulatory setting from inland aquaculture. Brackish-water aquaculture in coastal districts may bring export opportunities but can also create disease, water-quality and salinity risks. A question on “agriculture and allied activities” may include these activities, while a question on crop production alone does not.
The 2024-25 Socio Economic Survey reported advance-estimate agriculture broad-sector GVA of ₹5.19 lakh crore, industry GVA of ₹3.41 lakh crore and services GVA of ₹6.11 lakh crore. Those values belong to that survey vintage and should not be copied into a 2026-27 BE table as though they have the same year or status. To compare sectors, check whether the source reports GVA at current or constant prices and whether it has subsequently revised the base.
Worked example: A coastal fishing household can sell fresh catch, send part to a cold chain, and supply a processing plant. These choices differ in storage needs and value added. A larger gross catch does not guarantee a higher household income if fuel, ice, spoilage or buyer power change. For a question about agriculture and allied sectors, include livestock and fisheries where the official classification does, rather than equating the sector with crop farming alone.
