The Brahmaputra demonstrates why names and borders matter in geography. It is Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet, enters India through Arunachal Pradesh as Siang or Dihang, becomes Brahmaputra in Assam and is called Jamuna in Bangladesh. The basin is known for high sediment, braided channels, floods and bank erosion. Barak is a separate northeast system flowing through the Barak Valley.
