Mahanadi rises in Chhattisgarh and flows through Odisha to the Bay of Bengal. Its basin brings together plateau drainage, delta agriculture, flood moderation, coastal vulnerability and the Hirakud project. Odisha also has the Brahmani and Baitarani systems, which must be kept separate in map questions.
