17. Revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh and the INA
Free study material · concepts, shortcuts & solved questions
Revolutionary nationalism had several phases and organisations. The Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) was associated with the Kakori action of 1925; it later became the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly in 1929 to “make the deaf hear,” while taking care to use a political trial. Subhas Chandra Bose led the Indian National Army in its later phase and formed the Provisional Government of Azad Hind in 1943.
Exam lens The revolutionary stream should be studied as political action, not as a list of names. The INA trials after the war influenced public opinion and military sentiment, even though the INA did not militarily liberate India. |
