18. Quit India, Cabinet Mission and Independence

The Quit India Movement was launched in August 1942 with the call “Do or Die.” The movement faced immediate arrests and developed underground and parallel forms of resistance. The Cabinet Mission (1946) proposed a Constituent Assembly and a complicated grouping plan. The Indian Independence Act 1947 created the Dominions of India and Pakistan, ending British paramountcy and transferring power.
