Bihar runs some of the largest state government recruitments in India through bodies like BPSC, BSSC, BPSSC, BSEB and BTSC. This page lists the major exams, who conducts them, what they recruit for, and the basic eligibility — with links to our detailed guides where available.

BPSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE)
Bihar's flagship exam for administrative posts (SDM, DSP, revenue and other state services). Three stages — Prelims (objective), Mains (written) and Interview. Graduates in any discipline can apply, generally between 21 and 37 years. See our full guide to the BPSC 72nd CCE.
BSSC Exams (CGL and Inter Level)
The Bihar Staff Selection Commission recruits non-gazetted staff. The BSSC CGL (Graduate Level) fills posts like Secretariat Assistant and Auditor, while the BSSC Inter Level exam covers clerical posts for Class 12 pass candidates. Both use objective papers with prelims-mains structures in recent cycles.
Police Recruitment: BPSSC and CSBC
The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) conducts Sub-Inspector and Sergeant recruitment — written exam (prelims + mains), physical tests and medical, for graduates aged roughly 20–37. Constable recruitment is run by the Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) for Class 12 pass candidates, with a written test followed by physical efficiency tests. BPSSC also recruits for specialised wings — see our Forest Range Officer guide.
Teaching: BTET and BPSC TRE
The Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test (BTET), conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board, qualifies candidates for primary (Paper I) and upper-primary (Paper II) teaching. Actual school-teacher recruitment now runs through BPSC's Teacher Recruitment Exam — see our BPSC TRE 4.0 guide. Eligibility follows NCTE norms (D.El.Ed/B.Ed with the relevant degree).
BPSC Judicial Services
Recruits Civil Judges through Prelims, Mains and Interview. Requires an LLB from a recognised university, typically ages 22–35.
Engineering: BPSC AE and BTSC JE
BPSC recruits Assistant Engineers (B.E./B.Tech in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical) for state departments — see the BPSC AE guide — while BTSC recruits Junior Engineers at diploma level (BTSC JE guide).
Health Sector: BTSC Recruitments
The Bihar Technical Service Commission runs large health recruitments — Staff Nurse, ANM, Pharmacist and Lab Technician — typically merit- or objective-test based with professional registration requirements.
Entrance Exams: BCECE
For admissions (not jobs), the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board conducts BCECE for engineering, medical and agriculture seats in state institutions, for Class 12 (PCM/PCB) candidates.
