NEW DELHI, September 19 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alerts for coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal intensified and moved towards the eastern coastline.
IMD warned of extremely heavy rainfall, strong gusty winds of 60–70 km/h, and rough sea conditions along the northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams were pre-deployed to vulnerable districts, and the State Disaster Management Authorities in both states activated emergency operations centres.
The IMD advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea and coastal authorities to keep evacuation routes open.
