Correct answer: (A) 17 km, East

Track each leg on a compass grid (a left turn rotates the heading 90° anti-clockwise, a right turn 90° clockwise). Net east-west: East 2 − West 19 = -17 (17 km West). Net north-south: North 14 − South 14 = 0 (no north-south shift). So P is 17 km straight West of A. To return to A he must travel the same 17 km in the opposite direction, i.e. towards the East. He is at point P; answer: 17 km, East.
