Every year, aspirants for government teacher posts in Andhra Pradesh ask the same question: when will the DSC notification come, and how many posts will it carry? Answers circulate in messaging groups and video channels, and many of them mix confirmed rules with guesses. That mix costs preparation time, because candidates either wait for a date that never arrives or plan around a number nobody has published.

This guide separates the material into three layers: what the official portals show, what the press has reported, and what the last full recruitment (Mega DSC 2025) tells us about the rules that are likely to repeat. Where a statement is a report rather than an official order, it is labelled that way. Where a rule comes from the 2025 notification and information bulletin, it is labelled as the 2025 rule and not presented as a 2026 rule.

As on October 2026: no DSC 2026 notification for School Assistant, SGT, TGT, PGT, PET or Principal posts was visible in the official resource list of the AP TET and DSC portal (tet2dsc.apcfss.in, to which apdsc.apcfss.in redirects) or on the Commissioner of School Education site (cse.ap.gov.in). Press reports name 15 October 2026 as the expected date. That is an expectation, not an official announcement. Source: AP TET and DSC portal and cse.ap.gov.in, checked October 2026.

What DSC and TRT mean

DSC stands for District Selection Committee. In the past, district-level committees selected teachers, and the name stayed in use even after the process became centrally coordinated by the School Education Department. The written examination itself is called the Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT). In everyday speech "DSC" covers the whole recruitment, while "TRT" is the computer-based test inside it.

Two examinations are often confused. The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is a qualifying examination under the Right to Education framework and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norms. Passing it does not give a job. The DSC is the recruitment process that produces a merit list. The two are linked in a practical way, because in the 2025 rules a candidate's TET score carried 20 per cent of the final marks. If you want the eligibility side in detail, the Telugu-language AP TET 2026 complete guide covers it, and the exam structure is explained in AP DSC exam pattern and marks.

What the 2025 Mega DSC established

The most recent complete recruitment is the best guide to how the next one may work, so it is worth knowing the official record. The School Education Department issued two notifications on 20 April 2025. Notification 01 covered School Assistants and Secondary Grade Teachers in government, Zilla Parishad, Mandal Parishad, municipal and municipal corporation schools and tribal welfare ashram schools. It also covered SGT and PET posts in juvenile welfare schools and TGT, SGT and PET posts in schools for the differently abled. Notification 02 covered Principals, PGTs, TGTs, PDs and PETs in Model Schools and the residential societies.

The official frequently asked questions document gave the total as 16,347 posts and split them by management: 13,192 in Mandal Parishad, Zilla Parishad, municipal and municipal corporation schools; 286 in AP Model Schools; 190 in APREIS; 439 in APSWREIS; 170 in BCWREIS; 881 in tribal welfare ashram schools; 1,143 in tribal welfare Gurukulam schools; 31 for the welfare of the differently abled; and 15 in juvenile welfare. Kurnool had the highest district count at 2,678 and Srikakulam the lowest at 543.

The timeline was compact. Applications and fee payment ran from 20 April to 15 May 2025, the computer-based tests were scheduled from 6 June to 6 July 2025, and a press note stated that merit lists for all subjects were placed on the official website from 22 August 2025, with certificate verification starting on 28 August 2025. The official application fee was Rs 750 for each post separately, and candidates who had applied under the cancelled DSC 2024 notification could reapply for the same posts without paying again.

These facts matter for 2026 in two ways. First, they show the shape of an AP teacher recruitment: a short application window, a long computer-based test window with normalisation across shifts, and a merit list within weeks. Second, they show that the department publishes the rules in a notification and an information bulletin on the same day, so the bulletin is where you should look for any detail that is not in the headline notification.

Which posts, and which TET paper

The 2025 recruitment used the following structure. The 2026 notification, when it appears, may change it, and the table should be read as a guide rather than a promise.

Post Typical classes or institutions TET needed in 2025 rules
Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) Primary classes in regular schools Yes (APTET or CTET)
School Assistant (languages and non-languages) Upper primary and high school subjects Yes
School Assistant (Physical Education) and PET Physical education No
TGT (residential and Model Schools) Trained graduate teacher posts Yes
PGT (residential and Model Schools) Post graduate subject posts No
Principal (residential schools) School head posts No
TGT and SGT, Special Education Schools for the differently abled Yes

The TET papers themselves are labelled by level. In the APTET June 2026 notification, Paper 1A is for teachers of classes I to V in regular schools and Paper 2A for classes VI to VIII; Papers 1B and 2B are for special schools. A candidate who holds both a D.El.Ed and a B.Ed may appear in all papers. A common error in unofficial notes is to describe 2B as the social studies paper. It is not. Social studies is a subject within Paper 2A, and 2B belongs to special education.

For subject-level preparation, see the Telugu-language guides to SGT and School Assistant posts, or the English AP DSC syllabus 2026 for the official suggestive syllabus structure.

Vacancies: what is reported and what is not

As on October 2026, the vacancy figures come from press reports and not from an order that this site could open. A daily newspaper reported on 22 September 2026 that the notification was likely on 15 October and that the number of posts would be around 2,535, spread across School Assistant, SGT, TGT, PGT, PET and Principal categories. The same report said the 2026 job calendar had been issued through a finance department order dated 22 August 2026, and described the calendar as covering 10,060 posts in four phases, with the District Selection Committees named among the recruiting agencies. Another report on the calendar attributed 2,991 school education posts to it.

Those two numbers, 2,535 and 2,991, are different, and neither is a notified vacancy list. The report also said that 70 per cent of vacancies would be filled by promotion and 30 per cent by direct recruitment, and that the government planned yearly DSC notifications with vacancy lists prepared for 2026 to 2029. All of these are reported plans. The practical lesson is simple: do not decide your subject, your district strategy or your application plan on a total. A total tells you nothing about your subject, your zone or your reservation category.

When a notification appears, it will contain district-wise and subject-wise tables like those in the 2025 notification. In 2025 the tables ran across SA language and non-language subjects, SGT and PE for each district, with separate tables for municipal schools, tribal welfare ashram schools, juvenile welfare schools and schools for the differently abled. Read the row for your own subject and district and the roster point that applies to your category. A district with 12 posts in a subject may offer none to a particular reservation category.

How the number changes your decisions

A smaller recruitment than 2025 raises competition, but the preparation method stays the same. Three decisions are affected.

  1. Which post to apply for. If you are qualified for both SGT and School Assistant, the 2025 rules allowed separate applications with a fee per post. Preparing for both means dividing study time between two different papers, so decide early.
  2. Which subject to choose. Some School Assistant subjects had very few posts in some districts in 2025. Compare the subjects you are qualified for before you commit.
  3. How much time to allot. With fewer posts, cut-offs tend to rise, but no one can predict a cut-off before the paper. Daily timed practice is a more useful investment than arithmetic about cut-offs.

Dates: reported timeline versus official timeline

Stage What has been reported Status
Notification About 15 October 2026 Not official
Online applications Several weeks after notification Dates to be notified
Hall tickets Days before the test Dates to be notified
TRT written test (CBT) Reported as December 2026 Not official
Initial key and objections After the test Dates to be notified
Merit list and certificate verification Weeks after the test Dates to be notified

Recruitment dates in Andhra Pradesh have moved before. Treat a reported date as a planning signal, not a deadline. Keep your plan in daily targets so that a delay does not break it and an early notification does not catch you unprepared. The wider recruitment picture for the state is in the Andhra Pradesh government exams 2026 guide.

Eligibility: the 2025 rules as a reference

The conditions below come from the 2025 information bulletin. They are a reference for what to check in 2026, not a statement of the 2026 conditions.

Educational qualification

For SGT, the 2025 bulletin required an Intermediate certificate with at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for SC, ST, BC and persons with benchmark disabilities) together with a two-year D.Ed or D.El.Ed, a special education equivalent recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, or a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education. A degree with a B.Ed was not listed as a route for SGT in that bulletin, which is a frequent source of confusion.

For School Assistant posts, the bulletin required a graduation with the relevant subject combination, at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for the reserved groups listed), and a B.Ed with the matching methodology subject. Integrated four-year B.A.B.Ed or B.Sc.B.Ed degrees and postgraduate plus integrated B.Ed-M.Ed routes were also listed with their own percentage conditions. For example, the Mathematics post accepted Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Statistics as the degree subject, or one of three equal optional subjects, with Mathematics as the B.Ed methodology. Check your own degree subjects against the exact line for your post, because a missing optional subject is the most common reason for ineligibility.

For TGT and PGT posts in residential and Model Schools, the bulletin applied degree-level and postgraduate-level subject conditions respectively, with a B.Ed for both. For Principals, it listed its own qualification and experience conditions.

The bulletin also stated that candidates must hold all required certificates on the last date for submitting applications, that there would be no relaxation, and that degrees obtained through distance or open universities must carry recognition from the relevant statutory authority. The burden of proving recognition was placed on the candidate.

TET requirement

In 2025, a valid APTET or CTET qualification was mandatory for School Assistants (except Physical Education), SGTs, TGTs and the special education teacher posts. It was not required for Principals, PGTs, School Assistants in Physical Education, Physical Directors and PETs. Pass marks in the TET were 90 of 150 for OC and EWS, 75 for BC, and 60 for SC, ST, persons with benchmark disabilities and ex-servicemen. The APTET June 2026 notification repeats these pass marks and states that the certificate is valid for life. It also says there is no limit on attempts and that a candidate can reappear to improve a score.

Age limit

In 2025 the age limit was 18 to 44 years as on 1 July 2024, with a maximum of 49 years for SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates and 54 years for persons with benchmark disabilities. For ex-servicemen, the length of service plus three years was deducted from the actual age. The reference date and any special relaxation will be in the 2026 notification. The reference date is important, because a difference of a few days can decide eligibility.

Local candidate rule

The 2025 bulletin applied the local candidate reservation under the Andhra Pradesh Public Employment (Organisation of Local Cadres and Regulation of Direct Recruitment) Order, 1975. Candidates should confirm how their study or residence record maps to the local area well before they apply, and keep the supporting certificates ready.

How to apply

Applications are online only. Based on the 2025 procedure, the sequence was as follows.

  1. Open the official portal named in the notification. Do not use a link forwarded by someone else.
  2. Download and read the notification and the information bulletin.
  3. Register with the name, date of birth, mobile number and email exactly as they appear on your certificates.
  4. Fill in personal details, educational qualifications and TET details, then select the posts for which you are eligible, in the order of your preference.
  5. Pay the fee through the payment gateway. In 2025 the fee was Rs 750 for each post separately and was collected before a journal number was issued. A journal number only confirms payment, and the application is complete only when it has been submitted and the certificates uploaded.
  6. Upload the required certificates and submit. Save the submitted form and the receipt.

The 2025 FAQ gave two useful rules about post preferences. The software shows the posts for which your qualifications make you eligible, and you should select them in your order of interest. If you are not selected for the first option, your candidature moves to the second option, and so on. Once selected for a post, a change of post is not possible. Choose the order carefully, because the portal did not allow changes after selection.

Employees already in government service, local bodies or aided institutions were required to inform their head of office in writing that they were applying.

Documents to prepare now

Document What to check
Tenth class memo Name and date of birth match all other records
Intermediate, degree and postgraduate memos Subjects, percentage and year of passing
D.El.Ed or B.Ed certificate and memo Methodology subject for School Assistant posts
APTET or CTET marks memo Paper, marks and registration number
Caste certificate Correct government format, valid, issued by the competent authority
EWS certificate Valid for the relevant financial year
Study or residence certificates Local candidate status
Disability certificate Percentage and issuing authority, if applicable
Aadhaar Name and mobile number consistent
Photograph and signature Scanned as specified

Certificates such as caste and EWS can take days to issue. If yours is missing or expired, apply now rather than after the notification.

Selection and the TET weightage

The 2025 bulletin described a selection process built on a computer-based test and the other criteria stipulated by the Government. For School Assistants, SGTs, TGTs and the special education posts, the total was 100 marks: 80 marks for the written test and 20 marks for the APTET or CTET weightage. For School Assistants (Physical Education) and PETs, the total was 100 marks for the written test only, with no TET.

The bulletin states the 20 marks but does not spell out the conversion in the sections that were reviewed for this guide. The reading that follows from the APTET June 2026 notification, which says 20 per cent weightage is given to the TET score and 80 per cent to the written test, is that the TET score out of 150 is scaled to 20. Treat this as the natural reading and confirm it against the 2026 bulletin.

Worked example (illustrative, not a cut-off). A School Assistant paper carries 80 marks. A candidate scores 52 in the written test and has 90 of 150 in the TET. The TET part is 90 divided by 150 times 20, which is 12. The total is 52 plus 12, which is 64 out of 100. For an SGT paper that is also 80 marks, the same arithmetic applies. A candidate with 48 in the written test and 105 in the TET has 48 plus 14, which is 62.

The example shows why TET scores matter, and it also shows why the written test dominates. A gain of 10 marks in the written paper adds 10 to the total, while a gain of 15 marks in the TET adds only 2. Those who have a TET score already have part of the weightage in hand, and the written test remains the main lever.

Normalisation

The 2025 bulletin said normalisation would be applied across shifts, using a formula based on the average of the top 0.1 per cent of candidates and the mean plus standard deviation in each shift. The point for candidates is that your raw score may not be the score used for merit, so a comparison of raw marks with friends in different shifts can mislead.

Merit list, ties and roster

Recruitment was described as purely merit-cum-roster. The bulletin stated that the number of selected candidates could not exceed the notified vacancies, that there would be no waiting list, and that unfilled posts would be carried forward. For candidates with equal marks, the order of tie-breaking was: date of birth, with the elder candidate ranked higher; then a female candidate over a male candidate if the dates matched; then a community order starting with ST, then SC, then BC groups A to E, then OC; and finally the date of passing of the professional qualification, followed by the date of passing of Intermediate for SGT and PET or graduation for School Assistants.

Reservation and roster basics

Reservation in AP government recruitment has two kinds. Vertical reservation applies to SC (in three groups), ST, BC (groups A to E), EWS and the open category. Horizontal reservation applies to persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen, women and meritorious sportspersons. The 2025 FAQ said roster points were not allotted in advance to the four horizontal categories, and that candidates should not assume otherwise. The 2025 bulletin also said there was no benchmark disability quota for School Assistant (Physical Education) and PET posts.

A roster is the ordered table that decides which vacancy goes to which category. With a small number of posts in a subject, some categories may receive none, so look at the vacancy for your category and not the subject total. Category certificates must be valid and in the prescribed format, and a candidate without one is considered in the open category.

What to do before the notification

Waiting for a date wastes the one resource that matters most. Use the time as follows.

Check your documents and eligibility. Confirm your TET marks, the subjects in your degree, your B.Ed methodology, your age on the likely reference date, and the validity of your category certificates.

Start from the official syllabus. The portal hosts a suggestive syllabus prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training for the 2025 posts. The English AP DSC syllabus 2026 post explains its structure, and the 90-day preparation plan gives a timetable.

Practise daily with a timer. Use topic-wise questions for 30 to 40 minutes a day and keep an error log. The practice sets are suitable for this.

Build the current affairs habit. Fifteen minutes a day is more useful than a cram session. The current affairs section can help.

Train for computer-based tests. Practise on screen, with a clock, and decide in advance how long you will give a single question.

How to read the notification PDF

When the notification arrives, read it in order. It takes about half an hour to get what you need.

  1. Check the issuing authority, the notification number and the date.
  2. Find the list of posts and confirm yours is included.
  3. Read the vacancy tables by district or zone, subject, medium and category.
  4. Read the qualification section for each post, including the TET requirement and the paper.
  5. Note the age limit, relaxations and the reference date.
  6. Note the application dates, the fee and the payment method.
  7. Read the examination scheme: parts, questions, marks, duration and any negative marking.
  8. Compare the syllabus with the earlier one and mark additions and deletions.
  9. Read the selection method: weightage, merit list, tie-breaks and certificate verification.
  10. Read the instructions at the end: file size, photograph format and help desk details.

Common mistakes at this stage

  • Anchoring on one report. Tying preparation to a reported date and losing momentum when it shifts.
  • Delaying certificates. Applying for caste, EWS or residence certificates only after the notification.
  • Studying without a syllabus. Collecting many books instead of following the post-specific syllabus.
  • Ignoring pedagogy. This section appears in every post and rewards concept clarity.
  • Late mock tests. Starting tests two weeks before the exam instead of using them to find weak areas.
  • Trusting unofficial links. Fake sites and agents appear around every notification. Government portals end in gov.in or apcfss.in, and selection is on merit, not through intermediaries.
