NEW DELHI, September 11 — The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment appointed Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) on Thursday.
Shri Kaishab Bihari was also appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of the commission alongside new non-official members. The commission is mandated to safeguard the rights, welfare, and social rehabilitation of sanitation workers across the country, as well as monitor the implementation of welfare schemes under the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers Act.
Social justice officials reaffirmed the ministry's focus on technological mechanisation of sewer cleaning and direct financial aid for sanitation workers.
