NEW DELHI, September 20 — The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) launched "OneTag", a FASTag portability facility that allows vehicle owners to switch their FASTag-issuing bank without purchasing or replacing their physical NHAI tag sticker.
Under the new system, users can link their existing FASTag device to a different bank account through the FASTag mobile app or netbanking portal, removing the earlier requirement of procuring a new tag from the new bank. The portability initiative is expected to improve competition among issuing banks and reduce costs and hassle for crores of highway users.
NHAI officials stated that the move aligns with the broader Unified Payments Interface (UPI) model of interoperability and digital financial access.
