NEW DELHI, September 30 — India's premier constitutional recruiting body, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), marked 100 years of its inception, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to address the landmark centenary celebrations at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on October 1, 2026.
The two-day centenary symposium will feature the unveiling of a commemorative coin, a commemorative postal stamp, and a reference compendium titled "100 Landmark Judgements – Shaping the Policies of UPSC and Public Service Commissions in India." The commission was formally established on October 1, 1926, following the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Superior Civil Services in India (Lee Commission), with Sir Ross Barker serving as its first Chairman.
Officials from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) emphasized that the centenary underscores a century of institutional commitment to merit-based selection, constitutional independence, and governance leadership.
