A person gave 40% of his income to his wife to look after household expenditure. He gave 20% of the remaining amount to each of his two sons and one daughter. One-third of the amount now left was spent on miscellaneous items and the remaining amount ₹14,400 was deposited in the bank. Find his income.

After giving 40% to wife, 60% of income I remains. Giving 20% of that to each of 3 children uses 3×20%×0.6I=0.36I, leaving 0.24I. One-third of this (0.08I) is spent, leaving 0.16I=₹14,400, so I = 14400/0.16 = ₹90,000.
