  2. Tense और समय-सूचक शब्द: क्या क्रिया का tense yesterday, since, by next week जैसे शब्द से मेल खाता है?
  3. Preposition: क्या सही preposition क्रिया, विशेषण या संज्ञा के साथ लगा है?
  4. Pronoun और article: क्या pronoun अपनी संज्ञा से मेल खाता है, और a/an/the की ज़रूरत या गैर-ज़रूरत सही है?
  5. शब्द-रूप और क्रम: adjective बनाम adverb, comparative रूप, double negative।

अगर कुछ गलत नहीं मिला तो उत्तर "No error" है, और पाँच-छह प्रश्नों में लगभग एक ऐसा आने की उम्मीद रखिए।

Subject-Verb Agreement: अंक दिलाने वाले नियम

  • Neither...nor / either...or / or / nor: क्रिया पास वाले subject के अनुसार। Neither the manager nor his assistants are present.
  • Along with, together with, as well as, besides: क्रिया पहले subject के अनुसार। The principal, along with two teachers, is attending.
  • One of the + बहुवचन संज्ञा: क्रिया एकवचन। One of the students has passed.
  • Each, every, either, neither + एकवचन संज्ञा: एकवचन क्रिया। Each of the boys was given a prize.
  • Collective nouns (committee, jury, team): इकाई की तरह काम करें तो एकवचन, सदस्य अलग-अलग करें तो बहुवचन।
  • Uncountable nouns (furniture, information, advice, news): एकवचन क्रिया, और -s नहीं। The news is good. furnitures गलत है।
  • दिखने में बहुवचन पर असल में एकवचन: mathematics, physics, news, economics. Mathematics is my favourite subject.
  • A number of / the number of: A number of students are absent (बहुवचन), पर the number of students is small (एकवचन)।
  • Many a + एकवचन संज्ञा: एकवचन क्रिया। Many a man has failed.

Prepositions: जोड़ों में सीखें

Prepositions को अकेले शब्द की तरह नहीं, अपने साथ वाले शब्द के साथ सीखें।

जोड़ा उदाहरण
angry with व्यक्ति, at वस्तु He is angry with his brother.
prefer X to Y I prefer tea to coffee.
agree with व्यक्ति, to प्रस्ताव She agreed to the plan.
congratulate someone on We congratulated him on his success.
accustomed to She is accustomed to early mornings.
absorbed in He was absorbed in the novel.
differ from This differs from that.
good at, fond of, afraid of Fond of music, good at drawing

Conditional Clauses

प्रकार ढाँचा उदाहरण
Zero If + present, present If you heat ice, it melts.
First If + present, will + verb If it rains, we will stay home.
Second If + past, would + verb If I were you, I would apologise.
Third If + past perfect, would have + V3 If he had studied, he would have passed.

आम गलतियाँ: if वाले हिस्से में will लगाना (If it will rain गलत है) और third conditional के if वाले हिस्से में would have लगाना (If I would have known गलत है; सही If I had known)। Second conditional की काल्पनिक स्थिति में सभी पुरुषों के लिए were प्रयोग करें।

Non-finites

enjoy, mind, avoid, finish, suggest, practise जैसी क्रियाओं के बाद -ing रूप आता है (enjoy studying)। want, hope, decide, refuse, manage के बाद to + verb (decided to leave)। Let, make, help, see + object के बाद बिना to वाली क्रिया (made him wait)।

Punctuation एक नज़र में

  • Semicolon: दो निकट जुड़े स्वतंत्र वाक्यांश जोड़ता है। The road was blocked; we took another route.
  • Colon: सूची, स्पष्टीकरण या उद्धरण से पहले। She bought three things: a book, a pen and a bag.
  • Dash: अचानक विराम या ज़ोर। He finally arrived – two hours late.
  • Hyphen: यौगिक शब्द जोड़ता है। well-known, mother-in-law.
  • Exclamation mark:
