AP District Fact Book · Chapter 31
30 | The five headquarters most easily confused

Pair present East Godavari with Rajamahendravaram, West Godavari with Bhimavaram, Krishna with Machilipatnam, NTR with Vijayawada, and Polavaram with Rampachodavaram. These pairs are easier to recall on a route than in alphabetical order: follow the Godavari from Rajamahendravaram to delta districts, then shift to the Krishna delta and its inland gateway.

A headquarters is a district administration centre, not necessarily the most famous tourist place or largest port. Historic documents may print Kakinada for old East Godavari, Eluru for old West Godavari or Vijayawada for old Krishna. Write the source year beside any such line; then answer a current question from the present portal.

Worked example: Make a headquarters correction grid: West Godavari-Bhimavaram, Krishna-Machilipatnam, NTR-Vijayawada, Annamayya-Madanapalle and Sri Sathya Sai-Puttaparthi. Say which older parent or previous headquarters each is commonly confused with. Headquarters are administrative facts, not necessarily the district's largest population centre, so use official portals for updates.

Active recall: Explain why Kakinada, Eluru and Vijayawada can appear in old district files but fail as current headquarters for those three names.

Headquarters traps

Separate current headquarters from old undivided-district names.

Current headquarters such as Bhimavaram and Madanapalle can differ from a remembered old parent-district centre. Use a dated official portal.

Current district geometry: APSDMA. Current district names and headquarters: credited official directories and portals.
