A barrage raises and diverts river water, a reservoir stores water behind a dam, and a canal carries water toward command areas. Dowleswaram is the Godavari barrage anchor; Prakasam Barrage is on the Krishna at Vijayawada; Somasila is a Penna reservoir; Polavaram is a large Godavari project. These are four different river-place pairs.
Project progress and command area estimates change. This district atlas uses stable river placement and names, and the dedicated irrigation volume handles project stages. Do not convert a sanctioned area into actual irrigated area or an announced completion date into a fact.
Worked example: A barrage diverts water, a reservoir stores it and a river crosses district boundaries. Match Prakasam Barrage to the Krishna, Polavaram to the Godavari and Nagarjuna Sagar to the Krishna system before naming a district. A project headworks marker is not the whole command area. A question about current completion requires an official project report rather than the river map.
Active recall: Assign Dowleswaram, Prakasam Barrage, Somasila and Polavaram to their river systems.
