AP District Fact Book · Chapter 32
31 | Northern hill-to-coast transect

Trace a line from Odisha-facing hills through Parvathipuram Manyam and Srikakulam to the Bay. Vamsadhara and Nagavali move from uplands toward the coast, so their headworks and deltas occupy different physical settings. The same route explains why hill administration, valley agriculture and coastal flood exposure may appear together in a regional question.

Visakhapatnam is an urban port district; Araku Valley lies in the separate hill district of Alluri Sitharama Raju. Anakapalli's industrial and farming belt is another current district. A single old Vizag label once covered some of these places. Use a current map to divide an old regional description into the correct districts.

Worked example: Traverse northeast AP from hill polygons to coast: Alluri Sitharama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam inland, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam on the coast, with Anakapalli and Vizianagaram between. A river or road may cross more than one polygon. Mark the broad landform first, then the current district boundary. Older agency-area descriptions require a source date.

Active recall: Match Araku, Visakhapatnam Port and Anakapalli to present districts.
