AP District Fact Book · Chapter 40
39 | Temples and heritage without old-boundary errors

Tirumala-Tirupati, Srisailam-Nandyal, Arasavalli-Srikakulam, Antarvedi-Konaseema, Lepakshi-Sri Sathya Sai and Gandikota-YSR Kadapa form useful present-district pairs. The point of a heritage map is to locate a site accurately; it does not certify the history of every monument.

Separate the site from the town, managing institution and route. Tirumala is associated with the Tirupati district but TTD is an institution; Srisailam temple and Srisailam dam ask different questions. A pre-2022 brochure may say Chittoor for Tirumala or Kurnool for Srisailam. The date explains that label.

Worked example: Tirumala, Lepakshi, Amaravati and Arasavalli are heritage anchors in different districts and regions. Older tourism brochures can carry old district labels; the monuments have not moved. Identify the site and type first, then look up the current polygon. An annual visitor count is another dated statistic and cannot be inferred from a site's religious importance.

Active recall: Place all six sites on a blank district map.
