Visakhapatnam is a major port under the central major-port system; Kakinada, Krishnapatnam and other coastal sites have different governance and project statuses. A district can contain a port, a fishing harbour and a greenfield proposal without those being interchangeable. Coastal AP's long Bay frontage creates cyclone and storm-surge exposure as well as trade and aquaculture opportunities.
Map the site first: Visakhapatnam district for the major port, Kakinada district for Kakinada port, and the Nellore coast for Krishnapatnam. A planned port or cargo target should be dated. Do not infer operating status from a point symbol alone.
Worked example: AP's coastline connects several ports and fishery centres, but port operations and district boundaries are separate. Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam and Krishnapatnam belong to different current districts or port governance arrangements. A seafood exporter based in one city may buy catch elsewhere. Use a map for order and dated port data for cargo.
Active recall: Distinguish a port's district, its major/non-major class and its latest operational record.
