India and Sri Lanka sign defence modernisation and training agreements

COLOMBO, September 10 — India and Sri Lanka signed key bilateral defence agreements on Wednesday in Colombo to modernize air defence systems and broaden military training exchanges.

Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), India will assist Sri Lanka in modernizing its 40mm L70 anti-aircraft gun systems. The agreements also establish officer exchanges between National Defence Colleges and enhance joint National Cadet Corps (NCC) training activities.

Defence representatives from both nations emphasized that the partnership will boost regional security coordination and maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean region.

हस्ताक्षरित समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) के तहत, भारत श्रीलंका को उसकी 40 मिमी L70 विमान-रोधी तोप प्रणालियों के आधुनिकीकरण में सहायता करेगा। ये समझौते नेशनल डिफेंस कॉलेजों के बीच अधिकारी आदान-प्रदान की स्थापना करते हैं और संयुक्त राष्ट्रीय कैडेट कोर (NCC) प्रशिक्षण गतिविधियों को बढ़ाते हैं।
