ASTANA, October 1 — The 8th edition of the joint bilateral military exercise 'KAZIND-2026' between the Indian Army and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan successfully concluded with a validation phase and closing ceremony at the Otar military training facility in Kazakhstan on Thursday.
The two-week exercise brought together 120 personnel from each military, with the Indian contingent led by a battalion from the Kumaon Regiment. Troops rehearsed joint sub-conventional and counter-terrorist tactical drills in semi-urban and rugged terrain within the operational mandate of Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
The Ministry of Defence highlighted that the maneuvers validated integrated tactical command structures, drone-based aerial surveillance, counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) response drills, and casualty evacuation protocols, strengthening mutual interoperability and deepening bilateral security ties in Central Asia.
India's strategic 'Connect Central Asia' policy, institutional engagements under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the provisions of Chapter VII of the UN Charter on peace enforcement, and bilateral military exercises (KAZIND, Khanjar, DUSTLIK) form staple questions in UPSC Civil Services (GS-II: International Relations) and Defence recruitment exams (CDS/NDA/CAPF).
