NEW DELHI, October 1 — Public sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Thursday revised the retail selling prices of 19-kilogram commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders downward by ₹48.50 per unit, aligning domestic wholesale fuel costs with cooling global crude and propane benchmarks.
Following the price revision, the retail price of a commercial LPG cylinder in the national capital Delhi settled at ₹1,740, down from the earlier ₹1,788.50. Corresponding rates in Mumbai stood adjusted to ₹1,692.50, Kolkata to ₹1,850.50, and Chennai to ₹1,903 per cylinder. The subsidized and market rates for 14.2-kg domestic cylinders remained unaltered.
Industry analysts noted that the reduction delivers timely operational cost relief to hospitality, catering, commercial bakeries, and small restaurant enterprises entering peak autumn festival demand, serving to restrain cost-push inflationary pressures across retail consumer food services.
The pricing mechanics of petroleum and LPG derivatives in India, the role of State-run Oil Marketing Companies (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL), Import Parity Pricing (IPP), Targeted LPG Subsidies under the DBTL/PAHAL initiative, and their impact on Core and Headline Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) form standard topics in SSC CGL, Banking, and State Administrative examinations.
