NEW DELHI, October 1 — The Ministry of Tribal Affairs on Thursday conducted an exhaustive multi-ministerial performance review of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), confirming accelerated delivery of essential infrastructure across 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) residing in 18 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The progress report verified that under the flagship ₹24,104 crore program (Central share of ₹15,336 crore and State share of ₹8,768 crore), sanctions have been approved for 4.9 lakh pucca houses under PMAY-G, 2,500 kilometres of all-weather connecting roads, 1,000 multipurpose community centers, and mobile medical units across remote tribal habitations.
Officials underscored that PM-JANMAN converges 11 critical interventions across 9 line ministries, systematically addressing historical development deficits by deploying off-grid solar microgrids, localized Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, and tele-health infrastructure to ensure no vulnerable household remains excluded from modern public amenities.
The criteria for identification of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups established by the Dhebar Commission (1973), constitutional safeguards under Articles 244, 275(1), and the Fifth and Sixth Schedules, along with the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006, constitute high-yield focus areas for UPSC Civil Services Examination (GS-II: Vulnerable Sections & Social Justice) and State PCS papers.
