NEW DELHI, October 1 — The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Thursday published the latest series of crash test evaluation results and safety star ratings for passenger vehicles under the indigenous Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP).
Conducted under the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS-197) protocol at certified testing facilities of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the assessments awarded top 5-star ratings across both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories to multiple indigenously assembled electric and internal combustion utility vehicles equipped with standard six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC).
MoRTH officials noted that the institutionalization of Bharat NCAP provides transparent consumer safety intelligence while compelling domestic automakers to engineer structural crashworthiness aligned with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) crash standards, directly supporting India's commitment to halve road fatalities.
The regulatory architecture of Bharat NCAP, the statutory framework of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, the global commitments under the Brasilia Declaration on Road Safety, and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 3.6 are essential concepts across UPSC Civil Services (GS-III: Infrastructure & Transport Governance) and state engineering and administrative examinations.
