NEW DELHI, October 10 — The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Saturday conducted a comprehensive administrative review of the evaluation schedule for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, projecting the formal declaration of written results in the first week of December 2026 to fill 1,056 vacancies across the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and allied Central Group 'A' and Group 'B' services.
According to examination schedules finalized at Dholpur House, approximately 2,800 candidates qualifying the descriptive papers will be summoned for Personality Tests (Interviews) commencing in the second week of January 2027. Shortlisted candidates will be mandated to submit their online Detailed Application Form-II (DAF-II), locking in definitive service preferences and zonal cadre choices within a strict ten-day window.
The Commission emphasized that the Personality Test—carrying 275 marks alongside the 1,750-mark Main written assessment (totaling 2,025 merit marks)—evaluates candidates on intellectual curiosity, critical power of assimilation, balance of judgment, integrity, and leadership capacity rather than specialized academic rote recall.
Constitutional safeguards governing the Union Public Service Commission (Part XIV, Articles 315 to 323 of the Constitution of India), All India Services under Article 312, landmark Civil Services reform committees (Kothari Committee 1976 introducing the three-stage pattern, Satish Chandra Committee 1989 introducing the Essay paper, Hota Committee 2004, and Baswan Committee 2016), and the Zonal Cadre Allocation Policy are foundational syllabus areas for civil services aspirants.
