NEW DELHI, October 7 — The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Wednesday released the written examination results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 on its official web portal `upsc.gov.in`, qualifying over 2,850 candidates for the decisive Personality Test (Interviews) in New Delhi.
The qualified candidates have demonstrated merit across the rigorous nine-paper conventional descriptive examination administered in September to shortlist officers for induction into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and premier Central Group 'A' and Group 'B' Services. The Commission instructed qualified candidates to electronically furnish the Detailed Application Form-II (DAF-II) within the mandatory submission window to formalize service and zonal cadre allocation preferences.
Personality Tests will commence in late November 2026 before apex appraisal boards at Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi. Cumulative merit rankings will evaluate scores amassed across the written Mains assessment (1,750 marks) and the viva voce interview (275 marks), culminating in a consolidated 2,025-mark evaluation metric that determines final service appointments.
The constitutional framework of All India Services under Article 312, the advisory mandates of the Union Public Service Commission under Article 320, and civil service cadre allocation principles are foundational subjects in UPSC Indian Polity and Public Administration modules. Candidates should recall that while the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service are constitutionally protected All India Services, the Indian Forest Service was constituted as the third All India Service in 1966 under the All India Services Act of 1951.
