BIKANER, October 7 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday formally dedicated to the nation the 3,000 MW (3 GW) Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) located across the desert terrain of Bikaner in Rajasthan, established with an aggregate capital infusion of ₹18,500 crore under the Green Energy Corridor framework.
Developed under a hybrid Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model orchestrated by central public sector enterprises and private clean-energy concessionaires, the sprawling utility-scale photovoltaic park is projected to generate 6.5 billion units (BUs) of clean electricity annually. Operating at peak generation parameters, the park will displace an estimated 5.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents annually, providing power to over two million households.
The high-capacity generation will be evacuated via dedicated interstate 765 kV Green Energy Corridor transmission feeders directly into the northern national grid. Concurrently, a designated generation tranche has been coupled with Component-C of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), powering specialized agricultural feeder lines to ensure uninterrupted, zero-cost daytime irrigation for farmers across western Rajasthan.
Ultra Mega Solar Park schemes, grid evacuation physics, the PM-KUSUM schematic architecture (Component-A, Component-B, and Component-C), and India's COP26 Panchamrit decarbonization goals represent high-yield topics across UPSC Civil Services (GS-III: Infrastructure & Energy). Candidates should recall that Rajasthan currently leads India in installed solar capacity, anchored by mega-parks including the Bhadla Solar Park in Jodhpur and newly operationalized desert solar corridors in Bikaner and Jaisalmer.
