NEW DELHI, October 8 — The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Thursday published the final merit list for the Combined Medical Services Examination 2026 (CMS 2026) on its official portal `upsc.gov.in`, recommending 827 qualified medical graduates for Group 'A' gazetted appointments across central healthcare institutions.
According to the Commission's official notification, selections synthesize aggregate candidate scores across the two-paper Computer-Based Examination (500 marks) and the 100-mark Personality Test conducted at Dholpur House. The recommended cohort includes 325 Unreserved, 84 EWS, 242 OBC, 116 SC, and 60 ST candidates allocated across Category-I (Medical Officers Grade in Central Health Service) and Category-II (Assistant Divisional Medical Officers in Indian Railways and General Duty Medical Officers in NDMC and MCD).
The newly inducted doctors will be posted across national hospitals, Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) wellness centres, and zonal railway divisions under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Railways. The Commission noted that the candidature of 42 candidates remains provisional subject to final verification of original MBBS credentials and state medical council registration certificates.
The structural composition of the Central Health Service, public health administrative frameworks, constitutional mandates of the UPSC under Article 320, and tertiary healthcare delivery represent core focus areas across medical administration and civil service examinations. Aspirants should note that the UPSC CMS examination tests clinical competence across two objective modules: Paper-I covering General Medicine and Paediatrics, and Paper-II covering Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, and Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM).
