OTAR, October 19 — A contingent of the Indian Armed Forces commenced the 8th edition of the annual bilateral joint military exercise 'KAZIND-2026' alongside the Kazakhstan Armed Forces at the military training grounds in Otar, Kazakhstan on Monday.
The Indian Army contingent—comprising 120 personnel predominantly from a battalion of the Ladakh Scouts alongside Indian Air Force flight observers—is operating in joint sub-unit tactical groupings with Kazakh ground assault battalions. The operational mandate focuses on executing sub-conventional counter-terrorist drills, hostage rescue scenarios, cordon-and-search missions, and combat engineering in semi-urban and rugged terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
Military commanders stated that the exercise places special emphasis on countering unmanned aerial vehicles (C-UAV techniques), tactical communications synchronization, and casualty evacuation in cold desert environments, underscoring India's defense diplomacy footprint in strategically vital Central Asia.
