NEW DELHI, September 28 — The proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled to commence on Monday, September 28, has been formally deferred following a breakthrough agreement between bank employee unions and the Indian Banks' Association (IBA).
High-level conciliation talks mediated by the Ministry of Finance and the Chief Labour Commissioner saw constructive consensus on key charter demands, notably the operational implementation of a five-day work week with declared Saturday holidays and recalibrated daily service hours. Following the mutual understanding, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) announced the deferment of the agitation.
Banking authorities confirmed that branch operations, cheque truncation clearance, ATM currency replenishment, and corporate digital clearing channels across public, private, and regional rural banks will continue without disruption ahead of the festive quarter.
Financial sector governance, labour conciliation mechanisms, and banking institutional frameworks are standard topics in banking awareness exams. Candidates should note that the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) serves as the apex advisory and negotiating body for Indian banking management, founded in 1946.
