TIRANA, October 20 — The Indian wrestling contingent delivered a celebrated performance at the World Wrestling Championships 2026 concluded in Tirana, Albania on Monday, clinching a historic Gold and two hard-fought Bronze medals.
In the Men's 57 kg Freestyle final, sensational grappler Aman Sehrawat executed textbook takedowns and agile counter-attacks to decisively defeat his Japanese adversary 8–2, capturing the world crown. In the women's divisions, rising sensations Antim Panghal (57 kg) and Reetika Hooda (68 kg) demonstrated exceptional tactical mat-craft to win their respective bronze-medal repechage bouts.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports commended the athletes, noting that structured sports science interventions and intensive overseas training camps funded under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) produced peak physical conditioning on the global stage.
The illustrious heritage of Indian wrestling (dating back to K.D. Jadhav’s historic individual Olympic bronze in 1952), the regulatory framework of United World Wrestling (UWW), and the operational structure of national sports development federations are staple topics in competitive sports current affairs.
