Recruitment Status Source
Junior Assistant cum Computer Assistant (general Group-IV) Awaited. No new notification after 23/2021 (28-12-2021). Recruitment notifications page
Hostel Welfare Officer Grade-II, Notification 25/2026 Open. Brief notification 15-09-2026, detailed notification 09-10-2026, applications 09-10-2026 to 29-10-2026, 11:59 PM. Exam date to be intimated later. Detailed Notification 25/2026, para 1.1 and 1.5

The 15-09-2026 web note listed 20 brief notifications, Nos. 07/2026 to 26/2026. None of them is a Junior Assistant recruitment. If you are preparing for Junior Assistant, the scheme below from Notification 23/2021 is the official pattern to prepare on until the next notification prints its own annexure.

Junior Assistant cum Computer Assistant: stages at a glance

From Notification 23/2021 (670 posts, A.P. Revenue Department, district cadre):

Stage Mode When it is held Counts in merit?
Screening Test Offline OMR, objective Only if applications exceed 200 times the vacancies (G.O.Ms.No.39 GA (Ser.A), 26-03-2019) No; shortlists for Mains
Main Examination Computer-based, objective For all candidates if no Screening Test, otherwise for those shortlisted Yes; selection is on Mains merit (para 15.1)
Computer Proficiency Test Practical, 30 minutes For candidates at 1:2 to vacancies, after certificate verification by the District Selection Committee No; qualifying only
Interview None

The district a candidate chooses at application (local or non-local) is final; the candidate writes both the Screening and the Mains in that district and is considered only there (paras 1.2 and 11).

Screening Test

Section Subject Questions Marks Time
A General Studies and Mental Ability 100 100 100 minutes
B General English and General Telugu (25 marks each, SSC standard) 50 50 50 minutes
Total 150 150 150 minutes
  • Held offline on an OMR sheet (para 1.6).
  • Conditional: the Commission conducts it only when applications exceed 200 times the number of vacancies (para 1.5). On 670 posts that threshold is 1,34,000 applications (our arithmetic).
  • Shortlisting for the Mains is in a ratio "as may be decided by the Commission at an appropriate time" under G.O.Ms.No.5 GA (Ser-A) of 05-01-2018; the notification does not fix a number.

Main Examination

Paper Subject Questions Marks Time
I General Studies and Mental Ability 150 150 150 minutes
II General English and General Telugu (75 marks each, SSC standard) 150 150 150 minutes
Total 300 300 300 minutes
  • Objective, answered on a computer (para 1.6). The Commission's site has a general mock-test facility to get used to the screen.
  • The candidate chooses the medium, English or Telugu, and the paper is valued in that medium (para 1.6). The paper is set in English and translated into Telugu; the English version is authentic (para 12.3).
  • If a question is deleted, that part of the paper is scaled up proportionately to the maximum marks and rounded to two decimals (para 12.4).

Negative marking

Each wrong answer is penalised with one-third of the marks prescribed for the question, under G.O.Ms.No.235 Finance (HR-I, Plg and Policy) dated 06-12-2016. Every question carries one mark, so a wrong answer costs 0.33 and three wrong answers cancel one right one (our arithmetic).

Computer Proficiency Test

Test Duration Maximum marks Minimum qualifying marks
Proficiency in Office Automation with usage of Computers and Associated Software 30 minutes 50 SC, ST, PH 15; BC 17.5; OC 20

Five parts: a letter or passage in a word processor (15), a table or graph in a spreadsheet (10), two presentation slides (10), a database task (10) and an e-mail inbox task (5). It is held for eligible candidates at 1:2 to the vacancies notified, under G.O.Ms.No.133 GA (Ser-B) of 12-05-2014, and conducted through the District Collector. Qualifying it is a technical qualification for the post (para 3), so a candidate who fails it is not appointed even with a top Mains score. Full part-wise contents are on the syllabus page.

Minimum qualifying marks

Category Minimum aggregate
Open competition, EWS 40%
Backward Classes 35%
SC, ST, PH 30%

Para 15.3 adds that securing the minimum does not confer a right to selection; the Commission fixes the standard and the cut-off for each category. These are floors, not cut-offs. See cut-off.

How the marks split

Block Screening (150) Mains (300)
General Studies and Mental Ability 100 (67%) 150 (50%)
General English 25 (17%) 75 (25%)
General Telugu 25 (17%) 75 (25%)

Our arithmetic: the two languages are one-third of the Screening Test and half of the Mains, which is the stage that decides selection. A candidate who is strong in General Studies but weak in one language gives up a quarter of the Mains. Per question, the time is the same everywhere: 60 seconds in both stages.

Eligibility points from Notification 23/2021

These are the 2021 figures; the next notification will print its own.

  • Qualification: a Bachelor's degree, plus passing the Computer Proficiency Test conducted by the District Collector before appointment (para 3).
  • Age: 18 to 42 as on 01-07-2021. Note that for notifications up to 30-09-2027, Notification 25/2026 applies G.O.Ms.No.187 GA (Ser-A) of 14-09-2026 and sets 18 to 44; a new Junior Assistant notification in that window would be expected to do the same, but confirm it in the notification.
  • Pay scale: Rs 16,400 to 49,870 in 2021.
  • Local reservation in 2021: 20% of posts on a combined merit list of locals and non-locals and 80% for locals only, under the 1975 Presidential Order (para 13.6). The Presidential Order 2025, as applied in Notification 25/2026, reserves 95% for local candidates; see cut-off.
  • OTPR: compulsory. The candidate logs in with the One Time Profile Registration number; OTPR is not an application.

Hostel Welfare Officer Grade-II: the pattern that is open now

Notification 25/2026 is for a post the Commission's syllabus page lists under Group-IV Services, but the scheme is different from the Junior Assistant one and the qualification is graduation with B.Ed. or equivalent.

The CPT in this notification is twice the length and twice the marks of the 2021 Junior Assistant CPT (60 minutes and 100 marks against 30 and 50), under a newer government order. A future Junior Assistant notification may adopt the newer scheme; read its annexure.

What this means for your attempt

Our arithmetic from the marking scheme, not APPSC advice:

  • Break-even for guessing: +1 for a right answer, −1/3 for a wrong one. An attempt helps on average once your chance of being right is above 25%. Guess only after eliminating at least one option.
  • Time: 60 seconds a question in every paper. That is enough for one-line GS facts and tight for data interpretation sets, so bank time on recall questions.
  • Weight of the languages: half of the Mains. Daily English and Telugu practice is not optional for this scheme.
  • The CPT is pass-or-fail: no mark counts towards rank, but failing it removes you. Give it the time it needs on a real computer and no more.
  • The Screening Test is a gate: if it is held, it decides who sits the Mains and nothing else. Do not try to peak for it; prepare for the Mains and let the Screening Test take care of itself.

Plan around these numbers in our preparation strategy. Full topic lists are on the syllabus page.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an APPSC Group-IV Junior Assistant notification in 2026?

Not as on 10 October 2026. The Commission's notifications page lists no new Junior Assistant cum Computer Assistant recruitment after Notification 23/2021. The only Group-IV-type recruitment open now is Notification 25/2026 for Hostel Welfare Officer Grade-II, with applications from 09-10-2026 to 29-10-2026.

What is the APPSC Group-IV exam pattern?

Under Notification 23/2021: a Screening Test of 150 marks (Section A General Studies and Mental Ability 100 questions in 100 minutes; Section B General English and General Telugu 50 questions in 50 minutes), held only if applications exceed 200 times the vacancies; a computer-based Mains of two papers of 150 questions, 150 marks and 150 minutes each (300 marks); and a qualifying Computer Proficiency Test of 30 minutes and 50 marks.

Is there negative marking in APPSC Group-IV?

Yes. Under G.O.Ms.No.235 Finance (HR-I, Plg and Policy) dated 06-12-2016, each wrong answer costs one-third of the marks for that question. With one mark per question, a wrong answer costs 0.33. The same rule is printed in Notification 25/2026.

Does the Screening Test count in the final merit?

No. Para 15.1 of Notification 23/2021 says selection is on merit in the Main Examination. The Screening Test, if held, only shortlists candidates for the Mains in a ratio the Commission decides.

Is there an interview for APPSC Group-IV?

No. Notification 23/2021 lists no interview. After the Mains, district-wise merit lists go to the District Selection Committees, which call candidates for certificate verification and the qualifying Computer Proficiency Test.

What is the Hostel Welfare Officer Grade-II exam pattern under Notification 25/2026?

A single-level computer-based test with no Screening Test: Paper-I General Studies and Mental Ability and Paper-II Education, each 150 questions, 150 marks and 150 minutes, total 300, one-third negative marking, followed by a qualifying Computer Proficiency Test of 60 minutes and 100 marks (minimum 30 SC/ST/PBD, 35 BC, 40 OC). The exam date will be intimated later.
