Current affairs questions in Andhra Pradesh exams are rarely about the biggest headline. They are about the date, the number, the name of the Act, the district in which something happens and the body that took the decision. This edition collects the Andhra Pradesh events of roughly July to early October 2026 that are most likely to be turned into questions for APPSC Group papers, AP Police SI and Constable, DSC and other state recruitments. Each item carries a date, a source and a short exam-angle note, so that you can revise the fact and the way it is usually tested in the same breath.
As on October 2026. The cut-off is 7 October 2026. Anything that happened after that date is not covered, and anything marked "reported" is a press report that we could not match against an official order. If a fact is not in this post, either it did not meet our verification rule or it is still moving. The rule is simple: an item is included only if it rests on an official release or notification that we opened, or on at least two independent press reports that agree on the key figures. Where reports disagree, the item is left out and listed near the end under "What we left out and why". There is no political commentary here, and offices are named instead of office-holders: the State Government, the Chief Minister's office, the Cabinet.
To plan the rest of your preparation, read this together with the Andhra Pradesh government exams 2026 guide, the job calendar tracker and the method post on how to study Andhra Pradesh current affairs. The Andhra Pradesh hub lists everything in one place.
1. How to read each item in this edition
Every entry below follows the same pattern. First comes the fact with its date. Then comes the source, labelled either official (a notification, press note or Gazette that we opened) or press (two or more independent reports that agree). Last comes a line starting "Exam angle", which tells you what a question setter is likely to ask. This structure is deliberate. Revision works better when you can see the likely question stem at the moment you learn the fact.
A few habits make current affairs far easier. Always write the date with the fact, because many options differ only by month. Write the number with its unit, such as Rs 9,355 crore or 6 million passengers a year, because a wrong unit is the commonest source of a lost mark. Write the body, because a Cabinet decision, a Commission notification and a Board press note are three different things. And write the district, because after the December 2025 reorganisation old maps give wrong answers. The state now has 28 districts, as covered in the district-wise fact sheet.
2. Cabinet decisions: July, August and September 2026
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet took three sets of decisions in the period that are worth remembering, on 10 July, 6 August and 23 September 2026. They are useful for exams because they contain concrete numbers and new institutions.
10 July 2026. The Cabinet cleared Rs 9,355 crore for ten multi-village drinking water supply schemes in rural areas, and gave administrative sanction of Rs 1,811 crore for 2,943 drinking water projects in water-scarce areas. It also approved the setting up of a National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court at Visakhapatnam. Source: press (Deccan Chronicle report of the Cabinet briefing, matched by other outlets on the headline figures). Exam angle: the pairing of "multi-village schemes" with a large rupee figure and "2,943 projects" with a smaller one is a natural double-option question; the NIA court location is a one-line fact. Note that a special court under the NIA Act is a judicial body notified for scheduled offences, not an investigating agency office.
6 August 2026. The Cabinet considered 33 agenda items. Four are the most examinable. First, it approved the draft Andhra Pradesh Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy 2026, aimed at private investment in transport, ports, airports, healthcare, education and renewable energy, with Rs 1,500 crore under a Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme and a Bridge Fund for projects that are not financially viable at the start but have long-term revenue. Second, it approved the withdrawal of the Andhra Pradesh Disha Bill, 2019, the reasoning being that its objectives are now covered by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and that a revised Bill may follow in line with the Centre's suggestions. Third, it extended the power tariff subsidy of Rs 1.50 per unit for aquaculture farmers with effect from 1 June 2026. Fourth, it approved an omnibus Ease of Doing Business law and a Pedestrian Safety Policy. Source: press (Telangana Today, The Pioneer and ThePrint agree on the main items). Exam angle: "Which Bill was withdrawn?" has the answer Disha Bill 2019; "What does VGF stand for?" is a general-awareness spin. The Ease of Doing Business law was an approval by the Cabinet of a legislative proposal. Do not call it an Act until a Gazette number appears.
23 September 2026. The Cabinet approved four new police commissionerates, at Rajamahendravaram, Guntur, Tirupati and Kurnool. Reports describe each as headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector General or Deputy Inspector General with powers of an executive magistrate, divided into territorial zones. It also approved a policy to empanel social media content creators for promoting government schemes, for an initial one year that can be extended; cleared investment proposals worth Rs 22,177.84 crore with an estimated 19,739 jobs, on the recommendation of the State Investment Promotion Board; sanctioned Rs 1,548.98 crore for Amaravati infrastructure covering water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage and roads; and approved two instalments of dearness allowance and dearness relief of 2.73 per cent and 1.82 per cent. Source: press (Deccan Chronicle and South First, with the date confirmed in the UNI headline). Exam angle: the four commissionerate cities are a classic "which of these is not" option set; Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam already had commissionerates, so they are the usual distractors. A commissionerate is a police administration model headed by a Commissioner of Police, as opposed to the district Superintendent of Police system.
3. Laws and Acts that are still asked in 2026
Two Acts from April 2026 are being asked in exams all through the year, so they belong in an October edition even though they fall just before the July window.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026 (Act 7 of 2026). Parliament passed this Act on 6 April 2026. It substitutes the wording in Section 5(2) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, so that Amaravati is named as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, and it inserts an Explanation that "Amaravati" includes the capital city areas notified under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014. It is deemed to have come into force on 2 June 2024, the day on which the ten-year common-capital period ended. Source: official-linked, SCC Online's explainer of the Act, consistent with the PRS Legislative Research bill text and with our explainer on the 2014 Act. Exam angle: three things are tested together, the section (5), the deemed date (2 June 2024) and the fact that the amendment is to a Central Act passed by Parliament, not a State Act.
The Andhra Pradesh Grama Sachivalayams and Ward Sachivalayams (Amendment) Act, 2026 (Act 17 of 2026). The Bill was introduced in the Legislative Assembly on 26 February 2026 as L.A. Bill No. 11 of 2026, and the text we opened says it shall be deemed to have come into force on 13 January 2026. It substitutes the name of the 2023 Act and its definitions, so that the offices are called Swarna Gramam in rural areas and Swarna Wardu in urban areas, and the department is the Department of Swarna Gramam and Swarna Wardu (SGSW), headed by a Commissioner or Director. The Governor's assent on 2 April 2026 and Gazette publication on 10 April 2026 are taken from the Gazette text reproduced in our recruitment posts, Sachivalayam Secretary and VRO and VRA. Source: official (Andhra Pradesh Gazette Extraordinary of 26 February 2026 for the Bill, opened); assent dates from the siblings. Exam angle: "What is the new name of the village secretariat?" is easy, but "From which date is the renaming effective?" separates careful candidates. The answer is 13 January 2026, not the assent date.
Disha Bill 2019, withdrawn. As noted under the 6 August Cabinet decisions, this is a withdrawal of a Bill, not the repeal of an Act. A Bill that was passed by the Assembly and sent for assent but never became law can be withdrawn by the State Government, which is why the news uses the word "withdrawn". Exam angle: the wording of the option matters, since "repealed" is a different legal step.
A useful revision habit for any law in the news is a four-box card: name and number, introduced or passed, assent or Gazette date, and effective date. For Act 17 of 2026 these are four different dates (26 February, assent in April, Gazette in April, deemed effect from 13 January), and a question will pick one of them. For Act 7 of 2026 the deemed effect, 2 June 2024, is earlier than the passage date, 6 April 2026, which is exactly the kind of detail an examiner likes.
4. Districts, administration and local status
Twenty-eight districts. As on October 2026, the State has 28 districts. Markapuram and Polavaram were formed with effect from 31 December 2025 on the basis of Government Orders dated 30 December 2025, taking the count from 26 to 28. Polavaram district has its headquarters at Rampachodavaram, and Markapuram district comprises the Markapuram and Kanigiri revenue divisions. A proposed twenty-ninth district at Madanapalle did not happen. Source: press (several outlets agree, including ETV Bharat, The News Minute and South First) and the Annamayya district portal as examined in our district fact sheet. Exam angle: the number 28, the two new names and the two headquarters. A question may ask which district has Rampachodavaram as headquarters, with Alluri Sitarama Raju district as the tempting wrong answer, because Polavaram was carved out of it.
Police commissionerates. As noted, four new commissionerates were approved on 23 September. This changes the "which city has a commissionerate" questions: along with the two earlier ones, the list now has to include Rajamahendravaram, Guntur, Tirupati and Kurnool once the Government orders and notifications follow. Until the notifications are issued, the safest framing is "approved by the Cabinet".
One-Time Profile Registration update. According to the web note of 29 September 2026 as read in our guide to the OTPR update and local status, candidates of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission are asked to update their profile from 30 September 2026 with school-wise study and residence details, so that district, zone and multi-zone local status can be determined under the Andhra Pradesh Presidential Order of 2025. Source: our tracker post; confirm on the Commission's site before acting. Exam angle: this is more of an application-procedure fact, but it explains why local status questions are common in 2026.
5. Recruitment developments
Recruitment news is where candidates most often mix reported and confirmed facts, so the labels matter most here.
SLPRB notifications of 16 and 17 September 2026 (official). The State Level Police Recruitment Board issued a set of notifications dated 16 September 2026 and a press note dated 17 September 2026 for Driver Operators in the Fire Services. We opened the two main notification PDFs on the Board's site. Rc.No.91/SLPRB/Rect.2/2026 lists 1,156 provisional vacancies: 542 Stipendiary Cadet Trainee (SCT) Police Constables (Civil), 285 SCT Police Constables (AR), 158 Firemen, 150 Warders (Men) and 21 Warders (Women). Rc.No.81/SLPRB/Rect.1/2026 lists 378 provisional vacancies for Sub Inspectors: 253 SCT SI (Civil), 116 SCT Reserve SI (AR) and 9 Sub Inspectors in the Special Protection Force. Both documents say that the vacancy figures are provisional and may change, and that the dates of the online application will be notified separately. The Constable notification prints an upper age of 24 years as on 1 July 2026 for Police Constable post codes 21 and 22, and 32 years for serving Home Guards and for the Fireman and Warder post codes. Exam angle: the post codes (21, 22, 42, 53, 54 for the first notification; 11, 12, 31 for the second) and the counts are favourite items for state-level quizzes. Read the full guide in AP Police Recruitment 2026.
APPSC brief notifications of 15 September 2026. The Commission published brief notifications for a set of posts on 15 September 2026, with applications opening in phases from 6 October 2026. Group-I Services (Notification 07/2026) was announced with 163 provisional vacancies, and our tracker records that the detailed notification of 6 October 2026 raised the count to 166 and fixed the screening test for 24 January 2027. Source: press for the 15 September list; the detailed notification is described in our Group-I post, which should be read against the Commission's website. Exam angle: the difference between a brief notification and a detailed notification, and the fact that vacancies are provisional until the detailed document appears.
APTET June 2026 result. The results were released on 13 September 2026. Computer-based tests were held over 12 days from 5 to 16 August 2026. A total of 2,14,486 candidates registered for 2,38,252 papers, and 1,97,703 candidates appeared for 2,18,254 papers. Overall, 90,862 candidates cleared 99,591 papers, a pass rate of 45.63 per cent on papers, and in-service teachers recorded 50.93 per cent, against 47.82 per cent in APTET October 2025. Source: press (Deccan Chronicle, The Hans India and Careers360 agree). Exam angle: notice that the pass percentage is by papers, not candidates, and that the in-service figure is a separate category. The AP TET guide explains how TET weightage works for teacher recruitment.
DSC 2026. As on October 2026, the Mega DSC notification for School Assistant, SGT, TGT, PGT and other posts is reported, not official. A Deccan Chronicle report puts the expected date at 15 October 2026 and the number at about 2,500 posts, while other reports give different totals. Do not memorise the number. Prepare from the DSC 2026 notification guide and wait for the portal at cse.ap.gov.in.
Job calendar. Reports speak of 10,060 posts in four phases, but the phase sizes and dates are reported differently, and the calendar itself is not a notification. See the job calendar tracker for the labelled table.
6. Projects, investment and infrastructure
Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, Bhogapuram. The airport commenced commercial operations on 17 August 2026, operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited under a public-private partnership. The Phase 1 capacity is stated as 6 million passengers a year, and 31 flights were reported on the first day, with services moved over from the old Visakhapatnam airport. Source: press (Deccan Chronicle and Telangana Today agree; a GMR stock-exchange filing is listed for the same date). Exam angle: location (Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district), the name after the freedom fighter, the PPP model and the 17 August start. Reports differ on the formal inauguration date, so questions on that date should be treated cautiously.
State Investment Promotion Board, 20th meeting, 12 August 2026. The Board approved 25 projects with investment of Rs 2,08,406 crore and an estimated 21,627 jobs. The largest proposal was ReNew's green data centre at Anakapalli of Rs 85,200 crore. Reports add that across 20 meetings the Board has approved 363 proposals worth Rs 13.78 lakh crore with a potential of 10.86 lakh jobs. Source: press (ThePrint, Deccan Chronicle and Swarajya agree). Exam angle: the sector mix (data centres, green energy, electronics, food processing) and the cumulative numbers. Keep in mind that SIPB approval is not the same as investment on the ground.
Goa Shipyard at Machilipatnam. In late September 2026 the State Government approved an incentive package for Goa Shipyard Limited to set up a shipbuilding and ship-repair facility at Machilipatnam Port, with an investment of Rs 8,000 crore and about 8,000 jobs, of which 3,000 are direct and 5,000 indirect. Up to 400 acres are to be leased for 30 years at a rental of 2 per cent of fair market value with a 5 per cent annual escalation. Source: press (Maritime Gateway of 26 September 2026, The Hans India and Indian Defence News agree). Exam angle: Machilipatnam is in Krishna district; shipbuilding is a rare question topic that matches the ports chapter in the minerals, industries and ports notes.
Google's AI data centre at Visakhapatnam (background). The foundation was laid on 28 April 2026 for a 1-gigawatt AI data centre hub at Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli, widely reported at about Rs 1.35 lakh crore or 15 billion US dollars. It sits slightly before the window but explains why data centres dominate the SIPB lists. Source: press (All India Radio, South First and Business Today agree).
Quantum Valley at Amaravati. The commissioning of an IBM quantum computer at the Quantum Valley Tech Park was announced with a target of September 2026. We could not confirm commissioning as on 7 October 2026, so treat it as a target, not an event.
7. Science and space
GSLV-F17 and EOS-05, 4 September 2026. ISRO launched the earth observation satellite EOS-05 on the GSLV-F17 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota at 2:55 am IST on 4 September 2026. The launch was described by ISRO's chairman as placing India's first imaging satellite in a geosynchronous orbit, and press reports give the mass as about 2,367 kg, the heaviest satellite carried by the GSLV so far. Source: official (All India Radio's report quoting the ISRO chairman, opened) plus press. Exam angle: Sriharikota is in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, the vehicle is GSLV, not PSLV, and the orbit is geosynchronous. Do not confuse EOS-05 with earlier GISAT names. The same statement said the first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission is targeted for the calendar year 2026; there is no fixed date, so avoid memorising one.
8. Economy and public finance news
State tax collections, April to August 2026. Commercial taxes collected by the State in the first five months of 2026-27 were Rs 25,449.80 crore, an 18.05 per cent rise over Rs 21,558.09 crore in the same period of 2025-26. August alone brought Rs 4,983.84 crore, 10.79 per cent more than August 2025. Net GST for the five months was Rs 16,452.62 crore, up 18 per cent, against a reported national average of 16 per cent. Source: press (Deccan Chronicle, with matching figures in other tax-news outlets). Exam angle: the contrast between the cumulative growth of 18 per cent and the August figure of 10.79 per cent, and the fact that "commercial taxes" is wider than "net GST". For the structure behind these numbers, read AP Budget and Socio-Economic Survey essentials and the economy and budget notes.
National backdrop. MoSPI released first-quarter 2026-27 estimates on 31 August 2026, with national real GDP growth of 7.8 per cent. A state question may ask you to compare state and national growth, so remember that the quarterly national number is not directly comparable with a full-year state figure.
9. Awards, sports and civic honours
Swachh Andhra State-Level Awards 2026, 2 October 2026. On Swachh Diwas, the State Government presented Swachh Andhra awards. Twelve government hospitals and health centres were honoured, judged on five criteria with weights of 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 per cent: separate toilets, hand-wash stations with soap, toilet cleanliness, infection control inspection and cleanliness messages. In the civic category, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation received the Swachh City award, Guntur the Swachh Municipality award and Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation an award in the one to three lakh population category. Source: press (two Deccan Chronicle reports of 2 and 3 October 2026). Exam angle: the weights add up to 100 and the highest weight is for separate toilets for men and women; the date coincides with Gandhi Jayanti.
Commonwealth Games 2026, Glasgow. India finished fourth with 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver, 9 bronze), ahead of Scotland on silver count after both nations had 13 golds. Source: press (Telangana Today and The Bridge). One outlet lists a single Andhra Pradesh medallist; because we found only one report, we have not named the athlete or the sport.
Asian Games 2026, Aichi-Nagoya. The 20th Asian Games run from 19 September to 4 October 2026. Visakhapatnam hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, national record holder in the women's 100 m hurdles at 12.78 seconds, was selected for India's team. Source: press (Deccan Chronicle). Medal results of individual Andhra Pradesh athletes were not confirmed at the cut-off. The state's sports incentive structure is in the sports and awards notes.
Independence Day, 15 August 2026. The 80th Independence Day state function was held at Amaravati. It is only a fact of venue and number, so keep it to one line.
10. What we left out and why
A good current affairs sheet shows what it has dropped. These items appeared in news but are not stated as facts here.
- Polavaram completion dates. Reports give October 2026, March 2027 and "2027" for different works. Targets change, so none is memorised.
- Judicial officers' retirement age. One report on the 23 September Cabinet mentions raising it, but the Supreme Court context in July 2026 concerned a move from 60 to 61, and the reports do not agree. Left out.
- Group-I vacancy numbers outside the Commission's own documents. Some portals list 91 or 892, which are different things (892 is the total across a set of posts, not Group-I alone). Use the notification.
- Gaganyaan G1 launch date. One website gave a precise date. The Chairman's statement gives only the year.
- Bhogapuram formal inauguration date. Reports differ. Only the 17 August start of commercial operations is stated.
- Capacity expansion of Bhogapuram. Reports give 18 million and 40 million. Left out.
- Medal tallies of the Asian Games. The Games were still running at the cut-off.
How to turn this into marks
Take the items above and build three small cards. A date card has 4 September (EOS-05), 12 August (SIPB), 17 August (airport), 13 September (APTET result), 16 September (SLPRB), 23 September (Cabinet) and 2 October (Swachh Andhra). A numbers card has Rs 9,355 crore, Rs 1,811 crore, 2,943, Rs 1,500 crore VGF, Rs 22,177.84 crore, 1,156, 378 and 45.63 per cent. A bodies card matches each decision to its body: Cabinet, SIPB, SLPRB, APPSC, Parliament, Governor. Revise the three cards for five minutes a day. Questions then become recall of a card you already own.
A worked example shows the method. Suppose a question asks: "A Cabinet decision of 23 September 2026 concerned which of the following?" The options are a new district, four police commissionerates, a new Act and a new airport. The date card points to the Cabinet of 23 September, and the bodies card says the Cabinet approves, while Parliament passes laws. The airport started on 17 August and the district was formed in December 2025, so the answer is the four police commissionerates. In ten seconds you have eliminated three options by date and body, and not by memory of a headline.

Common exam traps
- Calling the Ease of Doing Business proposal an Act before it appears in the Gazette.
- Confusing "Bill withdrawn" with "Act repealed".
- Using the assent date instead of the deemed effective date for Acts 7 and 17 of 2026.
- Naming Vijayawada or Visakhapatnam among the four new commissionerates.
- Saying PSLV instead of GSLV for EOS-05.
- Treating the Cabinet's investment approvals as actual investment, or SIPB totals as cumulative spending.
- Reading a pass percentage for papers as a percentage of candidates.
- Memorising a reported DSC date or post count as if it were official.
