Arunachal Pradesh Graduate Teacher 2026: Eligibility, Selection Process, Syllabus and Preparation Guide

In Arunachal Pradesh, a teacher is often the most educated person in a village, and in a remote settlement a school can be the centre of community life. Children may walk long distances through forest paths and river crossings to reach it, and the teacher may be the only link between them and the wider world of books, exams and careers. A Graduate Teacher, who handles the upper primary and secondary classes in a subject, has an especially important role in shaping the next generation of a young state.

This guide explains the post of Graduate Teacher in Arunachal Pradesh, who is eligible, how recruitment generally works and what to study. There are honest limits here. The state has not, to my knowledge, followed a fixed annual teacher recruitment calendar, and the agency that recruits (the education department, a selection board or the Public Service Commission) and the process (written test, interview or merit-based selection) can differ by advertisement. I will not state any date, fee, vacancy number or mark. Everything must be verified in the current official advertisement.

Latest Notification and How Recruitment Cycles Work

Teacher posts are filled when the Department of Education, which manages school education in the state, has vacancies and obtains approval to fill them. The usual sequence is:

  1. The education department finds vacancies in government secondary and upper primary schools, subject-wise.
  2. The department, or the recruiting body it uses, issues an advertisement in the gazette, newspapers and on an official website.
  3. Applications are invited for subject-wise posts, such as English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and others, sometimes with different districts or zones.
  4. A written test, a merit-based shortlist, an interview or a combination is conducted.
  5. Selected candidates are verified and posted, often to schools in the district for which they applied.

Where recruitment is linked to a district or zone, you must read carefully which posts you are applying for, and whether transfers to other districts are allowed. Gaps between advertisements can be long, so your preparation plan cannot depend on one date.

What the Job Is Like

A Graduate Teacher teaches a subject to students of upper primary and secondary classes, roughly classes 6 to 10 in the usual structure, though the exact class range is defined by the department. Duties include:

  • Teaching the assigned subject with lesson plans, activities and examples from the students' surroundings, in a classroom where several languages may be spoken.
  • Assessing students through class tests, projects and continuous evaluation, preparing progress records and communicating with parents.
  • Taking part in school events, festivals, sports, science exhibitions and community programmes.
  • Supporting students to prepare for board examinations where applicable and for scholarships.
  • Working with the school management committee and the community. In many tribal villages the community plays an active role in the school.
  • Doing administrative work such as attendance and midday meal supervision, and assisting the head of the institution.

The job may involve a posting in a remote area where housing, connectivity and medical facilities are limited. A teacher with a positive outlook and adaptable habits often has a satisfying career.

Post and Vacancy Structure

Teacher posts are organised by level: primary, upper primary (often called Graduate Teacher or Trained Graduate Teacher) and secondary or higher secondary (Post Graduate Teacher). Graduate Teacher posts are subject-based. No number of vacancies is stated here.

Eligibility

Educational Qualification

The common requirement for a Graduate Teacher is a bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with a minimum percentage, and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from an institution recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Some advertisements also ask for a four-year integrated degree such as B.A. B.Ed or B.Sc. B.Ed. The subject in which you apply must usually appear in your degree. For example, a Mathematics teacher would need Mathematics as a subject in graduation, and a Science teacher may need two or three science subjects. Check the subject conditions in the notice.

Teacher Eligibility Test

Under the national framework, a candidate for teaching classes 6 to 8 must have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Paper II. In Arunachal Pradesh, the accepted test can be the state test or the Central TET, depending on the state's rules. Whether TET is compulsory for a given advertisement, and which certificate is valid, should be read in the notice. See our guide to the Arunachal TET (APTET) for the structure of that test.

Age Limit

A minimum of 18 or 21 years is typical, and an upper limit in the thirties for general candidates is common in state teacher recruitment, with relaxation for reserved categories and others. I cannot state the exact numbers. Use the cut-off date and the limits in the advertisement.

Tribe, Residence and Category

Government appointments in Arunachal Pradesh may involve rules on Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) status and Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC), and these may apply differently to different posts. I do not know the rule for every cycle, so please read the eligibility conditions carefully, and if in doubt, consult the concerned Deputy Commissioner's office or the recruiting authority before you apply. Keep the certificates in the correct format.

Language Requirement

Because schools use English as the medium and Hindi as an important language, subject teachers should be able to teach in the medium mentioned in the notice. Knowledge of a local language is useful but is not generally tested in a written paper.

Application Process

  1. Study the advertisement for post name, subject, qualification, age, TET condition, dates and mode.
  2. Register on the portal, if the application is online, with a valid mobile number and email.
  3. Fill in your personal and academic details as they appear on the certificates. Select the subject and the district or zone, if applicable.
  4. Upload or attach photographs, signature, marksheets of graduation and B.Ed, TET certificate, tribe and residence certificates and other documents.
  5. Pay the fee as specified.
  6. Save the acknowledgement, download the admit card and check the centre.

If the notice allows you to apply for more than one subject, check whether you have to submit separate forms and fees.

Selection Stages

Teacher selections vary a great deal across states. In Arunachal Pradesh, the stages in any advertisement may include some of the following.

Written test. A subject-based paper that also includes general awareness, teaching aptitude and language. This is used where the number of applicants is high.

Merit-based shortlisting. Academic marks in graduation and B.Ed, TET score and sometimes experience are used to prepare a merit list.

Interview or demonstration. A panel may test subject knowledge, teaching approach and communication. Some selections use a demonstration lesson.

Document verification. Originals of academic, tribe, residence and other certificates.

Medical fitness and appointment. Followed by a probation period.

Weightage of each stage differs. Rely on the advertisement.

Exam Pattern (Typical Structure, Verify in Notification)

Feature Typical structure
Written test Objective, possibly with descriptive parts
Sections Subject knowledge, pedagogy and child development, general awareness, English or Hindi language, reasoning
Level Graduation level for the subject, with school-level content up to Class 10
Interview Possible, with a demonstration in some cycles
Marking Check negative marking

Detailed Syllabus and How to Approach It

Subject Knowledge

The largest part of a Graduate Teacher exam is in your subject. The level is graduation, but the questions come from school-level topics viewed with the depth of a graduate.

Mathematics: number systems, algebra (polynomials, linear and quadratic equations), geometry (triangles, circles, constructions, coordinate geometry), trigonometry, mensuration, statistics and probability, and basic calculus in some cases. Practise problems, and be ready for questions about common student errors.

Science: physics (motion, force, work and energy, light, electricity, magnetism, sound), chemistry (matter, atomic structure, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, carbon compounds, periodic table) and biology (cell, life processes, heredity, evolution, ecosystems, human body). Add environmental science topics.

Social Science: history (Indian freedom movement, world history basics, medieval and ancient India), geography (physical geography, Indian geography, resources, climate, the Himalaya and the North-East), political science (Constitution, government, rights) and economics (basic concepts, Indian economy, development).

English: grammar, literature (prose, poetry, drama and fiction across periods at a basic level), comprehension, writing skills and the teaching of English as a second language.

Hindi: grammar (sandhi, samas, alankar, ras), literature and its history, comprehension, and language teaching.

Other subjects: for other posts such as commerce or physical education, consult the subject-wise syllabus in the notice.

Pedagogy and Child Development

For all subjects, prepare the following:

  • Learning theories: Piaget (stages of cognitive development), Vygotsky (zone of proximal development), Bruner (discovery learning, spiral curriculum), Skinner, Pavlov, Thorndike and Bandura.
  • Adolescent development: the characteristics of adolescence, peer influence, identity and guidance and counselling needs. Since Graduate Teachers teach adolescents, this is significant.
  • Intelligence and individual differences: Gardner's multiple intelligences, emotional intelligence, creativity and giftedness.
  • Assessment: formative and summative assessment, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, rubrics, portfolios, question paper design and diagnostic and remedial teaching. Know Bloom's taxonomy (revised: remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, create) and how to write questions at different levels.
  • Inclusive education: children with disabilities and special needs, universal design, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 at a basic level.
  • Teaching methods: lecture, demonstration, inquiry, project, cooperative learning, and the use of ICT and local resources.
  • Curriculum and policy: National Curriculum Framework, the National Education Policy 2020 (its 5+3+3+4 structure, emphasis on foundational learning, multilingualism, competency-based assessment and reduction of rote learning) and the Right to Education Act 2009, with Article 21A. Article 350A of the Constitution encourages instruction in the mother tongue at the primary stage.

General Awareness of Arunachal Pradesh and India

Though the emphasis is on the subject, a general awareness section is common.

  • Arunachal Pradesh became a state on 20 February 1987, as the 24th state, after being NEFA and then a Union Territory from 1972. The capital is Itanagar.
  • The Siang, Subansiri, Kameng, Lohit and Dibang are the important rivers. The Siang is the upper course of the Brahmaputra in India.
  • Tawang has a large Buddhist monastery, often described as the largest in India. The Sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, is traditionally said to have been born in Tawang.
  • Communities include the Adi, Nyishi, Apatani, Galo, Monpa, Mishmi groups, Tagin, Wancho, Nocte, Tangsa and Sherdukpen, each with its own language and traditions. Festivals include Solung, Nyokum, Dree, Mopin, Losar and Reh.
  • Namdapha National Park in Changlang is a well-known protected area.
  • Education: know the names and roles of the Rajiv Gandhi University at Itanagar and the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology at Nirjuli, and the state's policy priorities from official sources.
  • India: Constitution, polity, geography, science, awards and current affairs from the last six to twelve months.

Teaching Aptitude and Reasoning

Attitude and values of a teacher, teaching-learning process, classroom management, teacher-student relationships, professional ethics, and educational technology. Reasoning includes series, analogies, coding-decoding, direction sense and simple arithmetic.

Language

Grammar and comprehension in English, and Hindi if it is required.

How to Prepare for the Interview or Demonstration

If the selection includes an interview or a teaching demonstration:

  1. Prepare a five-minute lesson on a topic of your subject, with an opening question, an example from local life, a board plan and a closing check.
  2. Know why you want to teach, and how you would handle a class with mixed abilities and multiple languages.
  3. Be ready to answer situational questions: a student who does not attend regularly, a very shy student, a student who is disruptive, or a class without teaching aids.
  4. Read about the state's education issues, for example remote schools, multi-grade teaching and use of mother tongue.
  5. Speak calmly and simply. A panel looks for clarity and empathy.

Salary and Career Growth

A Graduate Teacher is placed on a pay level in the state's pay structure, plus allowances, and the level should be checked in the advertisement. Teachers in remote areas may receive additional allowances as per the rules in force. Promotion follows the service rules, from Graduate Teacher to Post Graduate Teacher or to headmaster or school administration posts, depending on qualification, seniority and vacancies. A teacher who completes a master's degree and additional qualifications can move to higher levels, and some move to other services through the Public Service Commission. Teaching also provides stability, time for family and the chance to make a lasting difference.

Previous-Year Trends

I do not have verified papers or cut-offs for Arunachal teacher recruitments, so I cannot cite any. Here is what is generally true of teacher recruitment in states like this.

  • The number of applicants is high compared to the vacancies in each subject, so merit lists are competitive.
  • Subject knowledge carries the highest weight. Candidates with strong fundamentals and good B.Ed marks are placed well.
  • Pedagogy questions are application-based and reward child-centred thinking.
  • When TET is a requirement, candidates without a valid certificate are not considered, no matter how good they are academically.
  • Documents are decisive: the tribe or residence certificate and the B.Ed recognition are common points where applications fail.

Worked Practice Questions

Q1. Which of the following is the highest level in the revised Bloom's taxonomy? Answer: Create. Explanation: The revised order is remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, create. Tasks that ask students to design or produce something new work at this level.

Q2. If the sum of the first n natural numbers is 210, what is n? Answer: 20. Explanation: n(n+1)/2 = 210, so n(n+1) = 420. Since 20 × 21 = 420, n = 20.

Q3. A ball is thrown vertically upward with a speed of 20 m per second. Taking g as 10 m per second squared, what is the maximum height it reaches? Answer: 20 m. Explanation: Using v squared = u squared minus 2gh with v = 0, h = u squared / 2g = 400 / 20 = 20 m.

Q4. In photosynthesis, oxygen released by the plant comes from: Answer: Water. Explanation: Splitting of water molecules in the light reaction releases oxygen. This is a common misconception since many students think it comes from carbon dioxide.

Q5. Article 350A of the Constitution relates to: Answer: Facilities for instruction in the mother tongue at the primary stage. Explanation: It directs every state and local authority to provide adequate facilities for instruction in the mother tongue at the primary stage for children of linguistic minority groups.

Q6. Which of the following is a formative assessment tool? (a) Annual examination (b) Classroom questioning and quick quizzes (c) Board examination (d) Final grade card Answer: (b). Explanation: Formative assessment takes place during learning to guide instruction and give feedback.

Q7. The solution of the equation x squared minus 5x plus 6 = 0 is: Answer: x = 2 and x = 3. Explanation: It factors as (x − 2)(x − 3) = 0, and the roots are 2 and 3.

Q8. A student gives a wrong answer in class. The best response for a teacher is to: Answer: Encourage the student, ask guiding questions to find where the thinking went wrong and help the student reach the answer. Explanation: A supportive approach uses mistakes as learning opportunities, in line with child-centred pedagogy.

Q9. Which cell organelle is called the powerhouse of the cell? Answer: Mitochondria. Explanation: Mitochondria release energy from food during cellular respiration in the form of ATP.

Q10. The Right to Education Act 2009 provides free and compulsory education to children in which age group? Answer: 6 to 14 years. Explanation: It gives effect to Article 21A, which was inserted by the 86th Constitutional Amendment in 2002.

Month-by-Month Preparation Plan

A five-month plan for candidates who want to be ready before any notification.

Month 1: Map the syllabus and rebuild fundamentals. Collect the syllabus and previous papers from other states. Revise class 6 to 10 textbooks of your subject, chapter by chapter, and solve exercises. Begin reading pedagogy basics.

Month 2: Subject depth. Move to graduation-level topics in your subject. For mathematics and science, practise numericals daily. For languages and social science, read the standard texts and make short notes. Study learning theories with examples.

Month 3: Pedagogy, policy and general awareness. Study assessment, inclusive education, NEP 2020, RTE and curriculum documents. Start Arunachal Pradesh and North-East GK. Begin a current-affairs notebook.

Month 4: Tests. Take weekly subject tests and pedagogy tests. Practise writing short answers if a descriptive paper is expected. Prepare your five-minute demonstration lesson.

Month 5: Full-length practice and revision. Take full mock tests, revise notes, and practise interview answers with a friend. If TET is required and you do not have a certificate, treat it as the top priority.

Books and Resources

  • NCERT textbooks of classes 6 to 12 for your subject, and standard graduation-level books.
  • NCERT and NCF materials on pedagogy, inclusive education and assessment, and the summary of NEP 2020 and the RTE Act.
  • A good book on child development and pedagogy for TET and teacher recruitment exams.
  • Question banks and previous papers from teacher recruitments in North-East states and state TETs.
  • The official website of the recruiting body and the state education department.
  • An English daily newspaper and a monthly current-affairs source.

Common Mistakes

  • Preparing pedagogy but not going deep in the subject.
  • Ignoring the TET requirement or not checking whether a certificate is accepted.
  • Applying for a subject that does not appear in the graduation degree as required.
  • Leaving out state GK.
  • Not preparing for the interview or demonstration.
  • Making mistakes in certificates, especially in tribe, residence and B.Ed recognition documents.
  • Relying on hearsay on vacancies or patterns.

Final Word

A Graduate Teacher's exam tests two things at once: what you know and how well you can help others learn it. Build the subject depth first, add pedagogy with examples, and keep your documents, especially the B.Ed and TET certificates, in order. Since notices come without a fixed schedule, steady preparation is the sensible course. The mock tests on pareeksha.in can be used for timed practice on the general sections, while the official advertisement stays the final authority on every rule.
