33 | Etikoppaka lacquer toys

Etikoppaka is a toy-making centre in present Anakapalli district. The district's ODOP account documents its turned wooden toys and lacquer finish, and the GI Registry records Etikoppaka Toys. A wheel or lathe can shape wood into rounded forms; coloured lacquer supplies the characteristic surface. Do not assume every brightly painted wooden toy in AP comes from Etikoppaka. Location and process together make a stronger identification than colour alone.

The map places Etikoppaka in the northern coastal belt, away from Kondapalli near Vijayawada. That separation is useful in paired-site MCQs. Some source pages use older Visakhapatnam district labels because the district structure changed; answer with present Anakapalli only when the question asks for the current district. Likewise, a registered GI name does not make all wooden toys from the town identical or guarantee every modern workshop uses the same materials. The craft lives through maker skill and market adaptation.

Worked example: Etikoppaka lacquer toys connect a north-coastal place with a turning and finishing process. The colour and polished surface are useful visual cues, yet factory-made lookalikes can share colours. For recall, sketch location, material and process. For an authenticity claim, use producer and GI records rather than appearance alone.

Active recall: Compare Etikoppaka and Kondapalli by present district, process and typical finish.
