AP's handloom geography has several centres, each with a distinctive local name. Dharmavaram is in the Rayalaseema belt, associated with silk sarees; Venkatagiri is in the southern Nellore-region textile history; Ponduru in the Srikakulam region is associated with fine khadi and hand-spun cloth. Government handloom lists place these products in their district contexts. A question offering one of these three should be solved by place and material rather than by the generic word “saree.”
The 28-district outline can complicate older labels, so write both the craft centre and the current administrative source on your revision card. Do not assume “khadi” means “silk” or that a textile named for one town is exclusively sold there. Production, trade and branding are distinct. On a blank AP map, Dharmavaram is inland toward the southwest, Venkatagiri toward the southern coast/interior, and Ponduru toward the northeast. These three widely separated anchors form a useful triangle for exam maps.
Worked example: Dharmavaram, Venkatagiri and Ponduru each point to different textile traditions and different map regions. Build a comparison grid with location, material or process cue and commonly tested product name. Do not answer all three as the same 'AP silk' category. Current district boundaries may change the administrative label but not the geographic town association.
Active recall: Match Dharmavaram, Venkatagiri and Ponduru with the southwest, south and northeast of AP.
