Chapter 7 — June: Amaravati, Public Infrastructure and International Day of Yoga
Coverage window: 1–30 June 2026
Revision checked: 11 October 2026
Question set: CA26-JUN-001 to CA26-JUN-025
This chapter places two June updates side by side: a Union Cabinet Committee approval for Central Government office accommodation at Amaravati, and the 2026 International Day of Yoga. The first is Andhra Pradesh-specific and has project facts worth precise recall. The second connects an annual observance with a dated theme and host city. In both, the announcement date differs from the status of later implementation.
1. Amaravati CGGPOA: identify the approving body and executing agency
On 10 June 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved construction of a Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) facility at the New Capital City, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs release describes a facility for offices of the Central Government, intended to bring several offices together at a single location.
The release gives an estimated project cost of ₹1,299.08 crore, funded by the Government of India through budgetary support under the Head of Account 4059, Capital Outlay on Public Works. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is to execute the project through the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). At the time of the release, pre-bid activities had started and tender documents were being prepared. That status phrase is important: approval had occurred; the project was not reported as complete, and no completed building was claimed.
The planned site covers 5.53 acres. The proposed accommodation includes two blocks: Plot C-9 with Ground + 13 floors, and Plot C-8 with Ground + 10 floors. The release describes about 8,000 officials and staff as the intended capacity and about 1,800 Equivalent Car Spaces (ECS) for podium parking. It gives total built-up area as 23,25,000 square feet, also shown as 2,16,032 square metres. These are proposed design parameters, not observed occupancy or completed construction.
For a police-exam question, organise the fact card as follows:
- Place: New Capital City, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh.
- Decision body: Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
- Administrative ministry: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
- Executing agency: Central Public Works Department.
- Estimated cost: ₹1,299.08 crore.
- Status in the 10 June release: approval; pre-bid activity underway; tender documents in preparation.
The number of floors is easy to misstate. “Ground + 13” means a ground floor plus thirteen floors in the described C-9 block; “Ground + 10” applies to C-8. Do not add the two figures into a single building height. The two blocks have distinct plot labels and designs.
2. Green-building and accessibility features: planned standards
The project was described as being planned to achieve at least a GRIHA four-star rating and comply with the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024. The release refers to energy efficiency, water conservation, locally available materials, sustainable site planning and occupant comfort. It also describes a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities.
These are design aims or proposed standards. A later certification record would be needed to say the completed facility received a particular rating. Likewise, a design commitment to conserve water is not evidence of measured savings. For an exam answer, use “planned/designed to achieve” unless a later authority documents the completed rating.
The release lists proposed public amenities for the campus, including a bank and ATM, post office, crèche, recreation room, conference hall, multipurpose hall and canteens. These details may help distinguish the project from a single office tower: the plan was for an office accommodation campus with supporting facilities. Questions in this volume focus on a few selected figures rather than every amenity.
3. International Day of Yoga 2026
The Ministry of Ayush described 21 June 2026 as the date of the 12th International Day of Yoga. The theme announced for 2026 was “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” A separate Ministry release dated 27 May said Kolkata, West Bengal would host the main celebration. The event announcement, theme announcement and the observance date should be kept as separate fields.
On 21 June, PIB reported that the day was observed nationwide. The UN General Assembly established 21 June as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, following a proposal from India. This stable background fact can be linked with the current-year update, but the 2026 theme should always be dated because it changes annually.
The Ministry’s descriptions connect yoga to physical, mental and emotional well-being and to healthy ageing. This book reports those as the stated public-health theme and policy framing. It does not offer medical advice or promise that yoga prevents or cures a disease. Candidates should remember the name of the observance, its date, edition number, theme and main-event location.
4. Compare announcement, approval and delivery
The Amaravati project and Yoga Day update show three different kinds of records:
1. A Cabinet Committee approval authorises a project to proceed through later administrative and procurement stages.
2. A ministry project release gives planned size, cost, agency and status as of a stated date.
3. An observance report confirms an event took place on its date, while a pre-event release identifies the theme or location in advance.
When you create revision notes, write a status verb beside every fact: “approved,” “in tender preparation,” “announced,” “observed,” “planned,” or “completed.” Do not use “built” or “opened” unless a later dated source proves it. Also state who made the decision. CCEA approval is not the same as a State Cabinet decision, and a Central Government project located in Andhra Pradesh is not automatically an AP Government project.
5. Andhra Pradesh relevance for SI and Constable candidates
Amaravati is the key state-specific item in this chapter. Its exam value is not only the cost. It tests central-state geography and administration: a Central Government facility is approved at a site within Andhra Pradesh; CCEA makes the decision; the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is responsible; CPWD is named as the executing agency.
Do not infer a new AP Secretariat, a State Government office complex or a capital-status change from this record. The release concerns Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation. A useful answer should name the facility accurately and specify the level of government that approved it.
For any question about the current construction status, check the latest CPWD tender or completion notice. This chapter freezes the factual account to the 10 June official release. Later progress after the cutoff is outside the edition, even if a student encounters it in newer news.
