NEW DELHI, September 16 — Representatives of six basin states — Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan — signed a historic inter-state agreement on Wednesday to construct the ₹12,000 crore Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project on the Tons River, a major tributary of the Yamuna.
The 236-metre-high concrete gravity dam will generate 660 MW of hydro power and create 617 million cubic metres of live water storage. The project will ensure regulated drinking water supply to Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) districts while enhancing irrigation capacity across 97,000 hectares in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Ministry of Jal Shakti officials noted that the Centre will fund 90% of the project's component cost under the National Dam Safety Framework.
