India's gross GST collection reaches ₹1.99 lakh crore in August 2026

NEW DELHI, September 16 — Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collections for August 2026 reached ₹1,99,853 crore, reflecting a robust 10.8% year-on-year growth compared to the corresponding period last year.

The Finance Ministry reported that CGST collection stood at ₹34,221 crore, SGST at ₹43,109 crore, IGST at ₹1,03,450 crore (including ₹48,200 crore collected on import of goods), and Cess at ₹19,073 crore. Economic growth in domestic consumption and improved tax compliance drove revenue gains across manufacturing and service hubs.

Central tax authorities noted that steady revenue growth reflects resilient economic fundamentals and digital invoice matching under GSTN.

GST collection figures and tax structures are core Indian economy subjects in banking and civil service exams. Candidates should remember that GST was introduced on July 1, 2017, under the 101st Constitutional Amendment Act.
